custom air intake is it harmful?

hey all i removed my whole air box keeping the sensor where it was. i just got an air filter with the metal top and driled a whole big enough for that sensor that was in the air box, i then attached the air filter where the box was and pluged the sensor in the hole.

(well it sounds good)

Yeah, this has been discussed many times, but you are gonna lose horsepower (and torque) having that filter there. It gets too much hot air from under the hood, and also the cooling fans blow hot ass air directly onto the cone intake!

yes, the makeshift intake.

heatsoak is the reason.
intercooler blowing hot air directly onto the filter.
even if the fan is off and you're driving, the intercooler is being cooled off by incoming outside air, which passes through the IC and goes directly into the filter.
that's why stock box has that little plastic thingie that bends away from hot air.

i have Dyno sheets to proove it.
Stock airbox = 153.9whp
K&N with heatshield = 142.1whp

even if the filter is not attached to the MAF u will still get power loss. Mine had a 10 inch bent pipe going from the maf to the filter, i also had a heatshield.
unless u route the filter below the hole in the frame (by your right foglight) u are better off staying with Stock box.

i think there have been 1034340 threads on this topic, and about 999999999 people who have bought MSPs in the last 2 weeks. everyone thinks their the first to put a filter on their car, lol.

Yeah, we got alot of newbs on the board, just help them out so we don't come across as assholes. If we help them faster we get less stupid threads.

Okay back on subject. Your fan blows hot air right into that cone filter you stock on there. Besides sounding good, its really useless for more power.

people treated me nice when i got here
noone told me that i was a noob, and should just do a search...........i didnt even know how to use this forum.
everyone just answered my questions, and made sure i understood.
this is why i come back here..........the majority of people are very nice and helpful.

there are no stupid questions.........just stupid answers

You pay $20,000+ to get the best of what theProtege has to offer, then you buy a junk filter and rig some crap up! I don't get it!

Tell you what, I'll trade you my P5 for your MSP, It has the Injen CAI on it. Sounds like a deal you would consider, If your willing to put that crap on your car!

Dude. What did Kenetix just say??? This is the problem. It's not the veterans. It's the noobs that have been here for like 2 weeks and think that makes them experts. They just can't wait to find something to rag on somebody so they can feel superior. Silly twinks.

P.S. I like your station wagon.
