I ordered some Cusco front camber plates for a 1st gen(BG) Protege from the guys at www.protuningperformance.com a few weeks ago and finally got around to installing them. Thanks to benjpi for getting the word out about these! I was having trouble with camber bolts slipping at the last trackday and needed a solution.
The bolt pattern matches, and the geometry is pretty close. Compared to the stock strut mount in the max castor position, you lose less than one tenth (0.10) of a degree of positive castor. No worries there. With the Cusco plates adjusted to maximum negative camber, I ended up with -2.9*. I was hoping for more but -2.9* will be enough.
Side by side:
Ready for install:
Installed (excuse the bird droppings) :
New bling in the engine bay:
I'm very happy they worked with no modification. The Ground Control kit makes it super easy to install and play with since the springs have no preload when the car is at full droop. I'm sure they can be made to work with OEM type springs/hats but I don't have any hats laying around to test.
