I ordered some Cusco front camber plates for a 1st gen(BG) Protege from the guys at www.protuningperformance.com a few weeks ago and finally got around to installing them. Thanks to benjpi for getting the word out about these! I was having trouble with camber bolts slipping at the last trackday and needed a solution.

The bolt pattern matches, and the geometry is pretty close. Compared to the stock strut mount in the max castor position, you lose less than one tenth (0.10) of a degree of positive castor. No worries there. With the Cusco plates adjusted to maximum negative camber, I ended up with -2.9*. I was hoping for more but -2.9* will be enough.

I'm very happy they worked with no modification. The Ground Control kit makes it super easy to install and play with since the springs have no preload when the car is at full droop. I'm sure they can be made to work with OEM type springs/hats but I don't have any hats laying around to test.

I believe they were ~$225 + shipping. They aren't listed on their site, so you just have to call.

Also the camber plates raised the front end a bit because I had not been using the OEM upper spring perch like most people that use the GCs. Be aware that they may raise the front end ~1/2", which is only an issue if you run OEM type springs.

They won't work with stock springs. The stock perch is already three sheets of paper away from the inside of the shock tower. But that's a good excuse to buy coilovers anyway....

Very interesting set-up.
I need to refresh my MSP's suspension soon.
What spring rates are you using if that's not asking too much.

these fit the pro5? Pardon my ignorance.
If so where can i get them? Phone? Website? Part#?
thanks

The FC RX7 plates right?

Gobb- Standard GC rates, 350# Front and 250# Rear

808- If you have smaller diameter springs like the GC and Skunk2 kits they will work. They are for the 1st Gen BG-chassis Protege. http://protuningperformance.com/Store/Help/Content.aspx?id=contact Tell them Marc G. sent you.

thanks... ill check them out and let them know who sent me...
yea i got GC with no spring perch and my strut bearing keep getting squashed to hell.... this option looks very promising cuz it replaces the whole top mount.

Yes I always had alot of noise with the OEM strut mounts and the GCs, now its quiet as a mouse.

Haha, man we just just talked about that a few posts up. I believe they are the FC RX7 plates as they have the same 3 bolt pattern. Not 100% sure though.

The FC RX7 plates right?
No, although thats a good fit for the older 88-92 MX6s (fronts of course). I was speaking about the rear of the car.

Cusco has a set of plates thats buried in their catalogue that seems to fit the rear of the 93-97 MX6 and all the subsequent chassis that were based off its suspension namely the 97+ proteges.

I ordered these thinking they were for the older MX6, but clearly they were for a different car. Took a while to figure out he possible fitments. I still have the plates somewhere, I reused the spherical ball and the mount and recut new plates for my application.

Ah gotcha. I was thinking the 3 bolt RX7 plates were the match, thanks for the clarification.

Ooo, shiney :D

Lookin good dude! Those are a MUCH better solution than running camber bolts.

Nice. We're puttin' our set on the ZX2 next week (also w/ GC coilovers).
