cruise control

the OEM protege stuff will work, fyi
I don't think so. The reason we don't have it in the first place is because the strut tower brace runs right where the oem unit mounts.

Do a search...I read where someone found a unit that will work, but the switch looked kinda flimsy.

The Protege5's have the exact same brace along with cruise control from the factory. You'll just have to trade the bracket that the strut bar mounts to for my bracket with the CC mount on it.

I think the lack of CC on the MSP was to keep the price down.

it works, trust me.

the strut bar is different on cars with CC....along with strut bar brackets.

The mounting bracket is there... at least on mine it is.

I heard a rumor that the reason they didn't use the CC was because it is a vacuum operated system that wouldn't work with a turbo, but that is obviously not the case since there are several cases that prove it will work fine with the boost.

Only thing I can think of.

if anyone is interested in a CC I will remove mine for a nice price. I think I may have used it twice in the almost 4 years I've had my car. All I need to know is what to remove, down to the last bolt.

I'll have to look at that. I'm not 100% positive, but strut bars have been regularly swapped between all the 3rd Gen Proteges. That needs a little more investigating. I'll have the answer by this weekend.

yeah the stut bars are different for those with CC. but you can always bend the CC bracket to fit under the regular strut bar

I'll sell you my whole setup..CC and strutbar if you want. I just need to trade for your setup or I need to recoup enough money to get an aftermarket bar and you can sell your bar to a 3rd Gen Sedan or something that never came with the strutbar.

has anyone had a aftermarket cruise control added to there msp if so which one

I had one fitted before I picked the MSP up from the dealer. And I have to say, it's crap!

I took it back after I first got the car, and they re-mounted it. It worked great for a week, then went back to it's surging tricks again.

I think part of the problem is that the cable doesn't fit on the mount properly. I've never had time to try and work on it myself though. Right now it works OK ish at speeds above 70 provided you don't adjust it. Accel, Coast or Resume are no-no's. Try use it at 55 and you'll soon be sick.

I've kind of got used to not using it now. If I'm on a long journey I'll switch it on for 5 minutes so I can stretch my leg, but it doesn't stay on for long.

I'd have to agree. When you add the factory strut bar to a sedan with CC, you just need the mounting plate that provides a new mount point for the CC actuator off the plate itself.

Unless the strut bar and mounting plates on the MSP are different from the P5 or MP3 there should be no mounting issues. (I doubt they are different, but that I don't know.)

I don't know about the "keeps the price down" theory...
Seems like they would have looked elsewhere to save money, We have power windows, locks, window antenna, etc. Why would CC cause such a money fuss? There has to be another reason. Has anyone done this conversion successfully? I've seen one post, and he says it turned out like crap.
