OK, I know it's a pretty general description but I'm hearing what sounds like the faint crackling you would hear when a catalytic converter is cooling down when I'm going over 65-70mph in the MS3.

The sound seems to be coming from around the instrument cluster/steering wheel/ footwell area. Since it's not engine speed dependent (The sound occurs in different gears at the same vehicle speed) my guess is that it's some sort of wind noise. The sound also get's louder as the speed increases. At 80mph it's loud enough where I know it's not in my head. I checked under the dash and under the car and didn't see anything amiss.

I had a similar issue with my 04 3 and it turned out to be a leaf stuck under the edge of the windshield near the windshield wipers, fluttering about.

No leaf in this case.

Any ideas? It's a pretty annoying sound. Faint but just loud enough that I know it's there.

I thought I read somewhere on this forum that the Intercooler made faint "crackling" noises.
