rockin the awd.....
ok i left work today and was driving home when i turned and noticed a 6-8" long crack from the edge of my windshield...now i swear it wasnt there when i left work...and upon closer inspection there is a tiny, and i mean tiny, like smaller then the crack width, tiny chip like a peddile the size of lint had hit the windshield....hwo the **** could this long ass crack cause this...my old 240 have big ass chips and rock marks on it and never cracked....someone tell me this has happened to them and it is covered under warrenty cus i dont plan on callin insurance and i dont feel like payin for this lame s***. thanks in advance.....

welcome to the club.

I'm at my 3rd windshield and its got 2 cracks on it. First 2 where warranty covered since no "rock" impact was apparent... this last one won't so i'm trying to last it as long as i can.. 1 crack has made it all the way from 1 side to the other thank you cold weather.

thats bs....cus i swear this lil mark can not be the cause of it....what is weird is that it happen so quick...i wasnt on the road for 10 min beofre i noticed it and i know for sure it wasnt there before then...looks like ill have to b**** at my dealer if they refuse...im not gonna pay for this dumb ass s***

Good luck....many people have had similar problems and the dealer wouldn't replace it under warranty because of the chip.

yeah my last crack formed right after the rock hit.. instantly... couldn't even go fix the rock chip since there was a 6" crack already. I guess its a design flaw that mazda won't admit to.. i've had 843204932 rocks hit my old 323 and never did the windshield even crack.

Good luck tough!... it depends alot on the dealer, my 2nd windshield there was a small small small rock chip visible but they changed it anyhow.. dunno if they were nice or they didn't see it?

yeh, i could barely see it i had to tilt my head and close one eye lol haha...anyway thanks....im gonna setup a service for all the tsb's anyway so ill add this to the list.....i will sit there til the fix it under warrenty cus thats bs....

talk to your insurance co. down here in florida we have the florida rock law- insurance replaces your windshield free of charge if the crack was caused by a rock on a roadway.

worth a shot.

It's a combination of the cheap glass that Mazda uses and mostly the extra firm suspension and rigid chassis of the MSP and MP3. My 2000 ES had the exact same glass and got hit with plenty of stones but never cracked. It's a fact of life that the firmer things are with the car, the more risk there is for windshield cracks.

Yeah, I had the same problem with my glass. I got hit by a rock on the way into work, nothing right away. 8 hours later when I returned to my car there was an 18" crack that grew steadily over the next few days. I had to have it replaced by insurance and the new glass goes in this Friday.

Fact of life with these cars.

Yeah.. I'm on my third piece of glass as well.. lol

It's a special piece.. diff from regular proteges... thicker I imagine... but still... guess the forces on the windshield from the car is really just that strong...

crazy... on a fun note... bang on your glass w/ your fist.. it's fun watching it grow... lol.

nah the suspension firm idea is bs cus my 240sx was riding on 10k/8k hks full coilover suspension....nuttin stiffer then that besides race cars :) and it had rock chips 10 times as large as this tiny ass thing...at this point i dont think it was hit by a rock....i dont remeber hearing any rock hit it and thats just bs how it grew cus it was 10 min that i noticed it....how the hell a long as crack like that grow in 10 min? im 100 % sure at this point that some how the pressure on the windshield caused it to crack.....ill have pics today...im tellin u the lil chip i found could not of caused it.....but we will see....im sur enot payin 260 bucks for something as dumb as this

Mine had a little tiny rock hit it and I got a 9" crack from it. Didn't even see the rock, just saw the crack start. You'll be able to get one for $230 or less. The only thing you might want to check on is the molding. The company that did my windshield used a generic molding. It looks like crap compared to stock.

I guess the new one is better, some bird s*** hit it and put 3 chips in it. No crack though.

I had this problem...little tiny rock or something hit the windshield and caused a huge crack that prolly wouldn't have happened in a good piece of glass. Anyways, took it to the dealer because I heard the protege windshield is prone to stress cracks, but the dealer pointed out a microscopic 'star' that marked where it was hit. So I had to buy a new one...but it seems better than the original piece of glass, because a few little rocks have hit it and no big frickin cracks....

could be the cold. cold weather will make the cracks shoot across yer glass as it tries to expand and compress.

i'm on my second windshield, should be the third, and it's got several cracks already ranging from 2" to 14".

edit:
also, check the ins. company first. the sooner you report it the better off you'll be. they covered my first windshield replacement, and they'll cover the rest of em if i have anything to say about it, and my monthly payment hasn't changed.

same thing happened to me the day I got my car, its generally covered by insurance, and the fluctuations of the air sealed inside your car all day are responsible for the crack's growth

i have heard if your windshield gets hit any where in the black outlined areas of the edge then you will get a crack. I have 3 that all hit the black and one chip that hit in the center of the windshield no crack

black=crack!!!!!
