Cracked Windshield....Body Twist From Cornering?

I was on my way home from work yesterday same route as always. Took an exit and while on the ramp (225 degree right loop turn) I heard a groan from the dash board and a loud POP. When I got going toward some traffic I noticed it. An 8 inch crack running across my windshield midway down parallel to my dash. The light was hitting it just right and it glared.

Im guessing I got some frame twisting going around the ramp at 40 mph. Now I gotta go to the dealer and see if this is gonna be covered by my warranty. This car has had nothing but problems since I got it. Did Mazda forget how to put cars together? What do you think happened?

There are no outer chips scuffs or other indications some debris hit the window. The crack starts behind the rubber gasket and becomes thinner toward the middle of the windshield.:wtf:

Welcome to owning a car with cheap Mazda glass. I'm kind of shocked myself that it can even hold up to the onslaught of bugs up here in the summer.

I can definitely believe yours cracked from body twist. My car was delivered by driver from a dealer in another state. He must have been hit by a stone which chipped the windshield. I didn't notice the chip when I bought it, but as soon as I drove the car home and went up my steeply angled driveway the windshield cracked. The replacement glass was quoted at $318, but I wonder if it would be better to get non-Mazda glass instead.

i posted about this a few days ago...i have concluded that mine crqcked from chassis flex also as there is no chip of any significance on my windshield.....i go the 15th to get it replaced...if it cracks again im gonna b**** that mazda gives me cash for aftermarket glass.....

They actually have a TSB out about it. Pretty sad.

OrngSpd03, I have 3 chips in mine from birdshit! And that was with a 3 day old aftermarket windshield!(argh)

What's the number of the TSB so I can research it? Mine cracked while driving in the snow due mostly to the defrost running full blast while it was colder than s*** outside. I was pretty pissed to say the least. I've had really big stuff hit the windshield on my 15 year old Nissan Pickup and have only one chip that I was able to have filled without any problems. The Mazda glass is s***!

it may just be in FL... but windshield repair/replacement is covered 100% by insurance w/ no copay

I could have sworn I saw one for it. I double checked The Man's FAQ and didn't see it. BUT, I did find a few threads about it.

That's only a few of them. There ae quite a few threads about it.

And yes, bird s*** chipped the windshield. Had some small stones in it.(they eat stones to help digest or something)

if this ever happens to me... im calling "Lloyd's Auto Glass"... They fix my crack, Insurance pays 100%... AND they give me a free box of steaks! :D

Yeah it's def. really cheap glass. I can see waves in the glass at some spots in my windshield and my rear window. I hope mine doesn't crack.

That is one hardcore bird...

And yeah, in NY glass coverage is optional, I think mine is like $10 a month or something. No deductible.

I wasn't sure what had caused my windshield crack, but now I know,..... I had been cruising home from my cousin's place in Paducah (cruising = 95 mph).
I heard this shotgun sound and the next day it was cracked, I had had the car only a week then and was like WTF!!!!!!
Do you think my dealer will replace it for free? Are they required to? Or should I go aftermarket? And if so, does PPG make glass for our car?
Answers to any of these questions would be cool.

yeah mine cracked on New Year's Day (I'm guessing from chassis flex in combo with the cold and my defrost on full). this is :bs:

I will have to call the dealer to see about this glass replacement policy. the only problem I can see is that I've got a stripe of aftermarket tint on the windshield. damn it Mazda!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Mazda has inferior grade glass in their vehicles. I put 3 windshields in my '91 RX-7. The last one was aftermarket glass and it never had any issues.

Also, after 6 months, all of my Mazda windshields looked as if they had been sandblasted. Small chunks of glass chipped out all over.

This happened on both of my RX-7's, the Protege, my gf's 626 and MX-3.

So true. Even before mine cracked it needed replacing-on a 5 month old car. My 170,000 mile fords look the same....the paint is the same way also....damn mazdas

I have owned several Mazdas since 1989 and this is the first one with a bad windshield. Mine cracked sitting in my garage overnight, 10 days after I got it. The dealer replaced it with no fuss.
