Cracked Fog Light

It looks like I caught a rock on my fog light. The light still comes on, but looks like its been through hell. I have the Mazda Extended Warranty. I assume this is something that is not covered since it is probably considered "normal wear and tear" correct? Anyone know where I can get that part cheap?

yeah, you're probably not going to be able to get away w/ a warranty on this one but it never hurts to try. Otherwise to get it "cheap" you'll have to check the F/S section or set up a WTB thread. You could also check Ebay but they dont come up to often. One other thing you could try is possible calling local junk yards to see if they have any totalled P5s or MP3s or 03 MSPs that only had rear end damage w/ a salvagable fog light...

Welcome to the club. Do you have glass coverage with your insurance? I do and they paid for both of my foglights when the glass shattered.

A set of RockBlocker overlays now protects them.

I have glass coverage but I was told by 2 different repair dudes that they couldn't do anything about fixing the fogs. I even told them I would take it apart & show up with the lens already out. So your insurance paid for new lenses or whole new lights?

i'll probably get a set too, don't wanna ruin my fogs

i sell the fogs new. it is actually cheaper to buy the entire fog assembly rather than just the glass.

LOL. Yeah, I think the glass itself was only like 20.00 cheaper than the whole thing. One of mine has 3 chips. 1 actually has the little hole with the chip behind it. I just put a tiny bit of clear silicone on it to keep water out of housing. Chips are on the edge so light still useful. Silicone hasn't even melted so just making due for now.

if you buy the glass from mazda, the whole assembly retails for less than the lens

Hey,

How much do you charge for the foglights? They cost $200 cdn at the dealer...

Interesting...I don't see how the glass could come off anyway. I called my insurance company and they just told me I needed to send them the receipt and they would cut me a check. Sweet deal! No one even looked at them. I got the whole assembly including brackets and bulbs. So now I have extra bulbs and I sold the brackets.

My insurance paid the Mazda dealer to install a new fog light, assembly and all.

0 deductable on glass.

Oh BTW rockblocker is the shiznit.

off topic: but do any of you guys have tiny bubbles in your rockblocker overlays...the fog ones?

Werd, I did the same thing. the insurance guy tried to give me a hard time and I told him that if he didn't cover it, I was dropping my policy on the spot.

and rockblockers are a very nice investment. No bubbles on the fogs, but I put them on when I had the fogs out of the car. My left headlight hada couple of wavey spots, but I used a hair dryer on it and it was gone.

A little off topic....how difficult is it to remove the glass from the foglight? I have a small hole in mine, I want to remove the glass and fill it with silicone from the inside.

Its not that hard...the thing that is a pain in the ass is taking the bumper off so you can get to the lights. Once you get them off the car its only a couple of screws.

Thanks....I was hoping I could just remove the glass by not removing the bumper, so I might put this off for a while lol

i just replaced one last week...you dont need to take the bumper off. follow the how to from the how to section and its easy...

unless your car is as rusty as mine. i used pb blaster, a 14mm box end wrench, a pipe to extend the wrench, and a torch to get the main bolt off.

oh, and i'm not sure, but you might not be able to access the rear of the glass. I didn't try, but it didn't seem the glass would come completely off (check the how to for pics)
