Could a FMIC ruin my mazdaspeed

I was just wondering, I have really been thinking about buying a FMIC off ebay. I have a extended warranty on my 2003 mazdaspeed and I was just wondering if anything bad might happen if I add one while leaving my turbo at factory setting (6-7 psi). I was also wondering what size would fit best. I was looking at a 28"x7"x2.5" fmic (total length not core size). Do you think that would be good, you can check it out at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7907065002&category=33742 . Give me some feedback. Thanks.

well if you have an extended warranty, or any warranty, buying an aftermarket FMIC will void them...

You'd also need custom pipes fabricated.

I got the extended warranty also, waste of money now IMO. lol but get it, your car will love you for it especially on hot days. Dealer has seen my car several times with it and I always get compliments, it will probably void the warranty though.

Umm, the only part of the warrenty I forsee it voiding is the one on the intake...meaning that if something happens, and is directly caused by the FMIC, then warrenty is voided...however, if you are leaking coolant, it's still warrenty, cause that has nothing to do with FMIC. Also, it'll actually improve the effeciency of your engine, and make it safer overall. I'm sure if you talk to your dealer, or whoever takes care of your warrenty, and explain to them about the FMIC, and ask what part of the warrenty it will void, they'd tell you and stuff..they might not void any part of the Warrenty. Hell, my dealership installs Essesntialsped.com stage 1+2 kits, and all sorts of good stuff....and covers IT under their own shop warrenty for labour and stuff. Meaning, if it ***** up, cause of something they did wrongg, you get it replaced...I got one of the coolest dealerships though.

I live North of the Border and driving in drifting snow at minus 20 C will get you more cooling with stock SMIC that you could ever see in souththern states in summer with FMIC.

There is a fuel cut-off protection that is there to take care of this situation.... In theory, Mazda is not putting such device to prevent overboosting.

Well I know that i will need custom pipes but my neighbor does that stuff all the time. He can hook me up with that. One other thing i was wondering is if i can connect the custom pipes to the plastic factory ones. That way when i take it to my dealer, i can just switch it on and off with the old one. Is there any way this could be bad. Suggestions?

IMHO the factory pipes and SMIC are worse for the car than Aftermarket hardpipes and FMIC.
thats what my dealership said. whatever is made to help the engine breathe better will not void my warranty unless the problem is directly caused by the part i changed. meaning ... no matter what breaks in the engine, if it was not the FMIC's fault, they'll fix it under warranty.

they can't void your warranty unless they can prove what you did caused the problem. One thing you can do to make sure your dealership stays friendly is to make them install it so they can't say it wasn't installed properly.

EDIT: things that will void your warranty right away, from what i've been told, is changing the boost, removing or replacing the cats and removing or replacing the BPV ... other than that, i think they have nothing to say

I say the same as everyone else, exept that for conveince I say get a 6" height instead of 7".
the 6" will fit perfectly without cutting and it is more then enough,it's more then you will use.

please explain how removing the cats will void your worranty?

for the warranty they'll argue that the increased horsepower caused everything else in the car to fail so you'll have to be tough or have a nice dealer to really get away with it, despite the laws and stuff

It depends on the dealer. The FMIC increases the output of the engine so they can use that against you. Just forget about the warranty. They could deny it even your car is stock by saying you abused the car.
BTW, they'll laugh about all those "laws".
