Cost of Boring out cylinders.

if i can remember correctly, i paid roughly $150-200 to have the block from my triumph spitfire cleaned and machined. (deck resurfaced, bores machined, and dipped and cleaned) however, i removed everything from the block before taking it down to the shop. if you can afford having your car down and out, and are able to do all the work of removal and reinstallation, go for it.

If I remember correctly it cost about $15-$20 a whole, and you can't go more than +.0025 over. I was going to do this but then I decided on putting a sleeve in the one cylinder that was damaged that way I could reuse the 3 good pistons I had left. Sleeve's are more expensive, they are around $150. My shop did a Great job though, I couldn't really even tell which cylinder had been sleeved.
So if you decide to bore all the cylinders, I would try to find someone changing out their stock FS-DE pistions and grab'em!

If you only have one cylinder with damage I would call your local machine shop and ask how much they would charge to sleeve your engine. Like I said it cost me around $150. But you also need to find out how deep the scratches are, if they are too deep then you will have to sleeve it. That was what happened to me.
Anyway you have to do some research to find out what you can do and what parts you can get. You can buy oversized(+.0025) pistons from the dealer but it is gonna cost you. I think they are $70 just for one piston and wrist pin. You will also need new rings if you go oversized which will run you around $210 for the set of four. www.mazdamotorsports.com has oversized pistons but they are 10.5 to 1 ($30 a piece)

Could they bore out the one cylinder and then put in a sleeve to return it to stock piston size? That way you could keep all of your pistons... This is just my brain at work, I have no idea what they can do .
Are sleeves ok for running boost though?

damn linux, this really blows. i never had anything bored, so i wouldnt know what to tell ya, but it sucks about the ride again.

I meant to say sleeve the one bad cylinder. So yeah they sleeve the cylinder with the damage. Sleeves are just as strong as a stock cylinder if not stronger.
Another thing to think about is that in order to bore out the cylinders in our engines they have to remove the oil squirter thingy's. So you have to buy new ones. Not sure what the price is on those. Not much I don't think, but my machine shop had never seen anything like them before.

Yeah I saw the oil squirter things too. I have multiple cylinders that need to be bored. When you buy a used engine, be sure of what you are getting. I wish I could have goten my old block before they threw it away last month. It only had one cylinder that was bad.
