Cooked car

Well the other night my car screwed up pretty bad, I was running about 10 psi, my fiance and I were out driving and started smelling something, we drove about 1/4 mile further and it got worse plus my boost was dropping so I pulled her over. The turbo was glowing and coolant was all over the turbo. sucks bad. any one have any ideas as to what happened, the tech at Mazda said that oil & coolant had leaked into the turbo. Will I have to replace it you think, any advice would be great, thanks

take the boost controller off, and take it in for warranty.

was your water temp gauge in the middle??

yep it was. said they wouldn't do it, the dealer said they would but MazdaUSA has to inspect the turbo and it wouldnt pass

Hmmm there is notorious coolant leak with the MSP right by the turbo on some cars. Sounds like you may just happened to have had a legit problem.
Several people have had the leak fixed under warranty sorry to hear you fried your turbo may not have had a thing to do with your boost.
Mine is at 12PSI and been there for months on end in this Texas heat under 1000's of miles of drving without nary a hitch.

If you take off the boost controller(assuming you have one), I do not see what mazdausa can say about how any of your other mods caused the coolant and oil to leak causing the turbo to burn up.

Yeah Coolant Leak......................

Where the upper rad hose meets the head. There is a cast piece which is the shape of a "T". Where this Piece "T's" off towards the turbo is where the majority of the MSP leaks occur. The "Pinch" Clamp is not strong enough to hold pressure and bleeds ou the top and spills coolant onto the turbo which causes that ugly smell that a lot of MSP owners have complained about.

This can be easily fixed by replacing that "Pinch" Clamp with a "Worm Gear" Clamp. My coolant problems went away.

Sorry to hear about your Turbo. You can probably pick up a new one for 500 or 700 USD.
