Converting Halogen to HID

After reading all this, and checking out ddm, I've deducted that all I need from ddm is the kit and h7 bulbs?

Yeah DDM h7--if you get 55W kit it washes out the light color (AKA 6000k looks more like 5000k)...you gonna come up north this summer and hang out?

painted wheels need to stick together! photoshoot time!

Meet in the middle? Showed my kids your ride and they want my wheels green now. They don't like the orange.
The burnt copper that duplicolor makes looks pretty sweet. As far as lights go I was thinking 35w/ with 8000k. I like the blue hue.then maybe I'll do the wheels and other accessories blue.

Black and blue would look good and be pretty unique. The biggest problem with 8000k is you will lose light output, but it should be better than OEM. MidOhio is in Mansfield, which is somewhat south--us northerners will be spending about 5 weekends this summer there. We also plan on doing some Columbus meets with their crew...pretty cool cats. And there are quite a few of you guys in Cincinnati who are awesome as well. Ohio definitely has a great Mazda group...about the only thing this state has going for it!

Hey James, you got a "how to" write up on installing the hid kit?
If so I'll pm you my email so I can print it. I'm gonna add you to my friends list also if that's cool w/you.

One ballast is on that fuse box cover, the other is wedged on the passenger side by the strut tower mount. I also tried to get a pic of the driver's side wires by the headlight housing. My wiring runs along the back firewall (any red you see would be the HID wiring). The biggest problem is somewhere along the back the wires are starting to melt; so I am going to wrap them up in hose to protect them. Let me know if you need any other help!

Thanks. What wire are you using? Looks similar to some I have left over from a solenoid install on a
1964 comet. The stuff I have is ten gauge. I also only got the 35w kit. I got the 8000k. Hopefully it's not to much light sacrificed.
Although I did the independent fog light mod
So when I turn my highbeams on, all my lights are on.

Curious when you did these how long did it take for both and did you have to remove the bumper?

Not to step on jri4, but the only reason to take off the bumper is so that you can have access to places to mount the ballast that are more hidden. I mounted mine to the frame without taking the bumper off. I had to go under the car to route the zip ties.

Not knowing what I was doing, it took 8 hours (all day) to install both the HIDs and Angel Eyes. That was start to finish, including the baking of the lights and all. I did remove the front bumper to get the headlights out for the angel eyes...otherwise I think it is unnecessary for just the HIDs

No stepping here, LOL--you know more than I do! I believe you do have to remove the bumper to get the headlights out to bake them for angel eyes, though. But yeah, as you can see in the pictures, I even just routed the HID wires up top along the sides. Might look a little messy, but they are out of the way pretty good.

EDIT: Either way, bumper removal is just about the easiest part of the whole gig.

Yeah, the bulbs go in the headlights and the car's headlight harness plus into the ballast. The ballast has power that goes to the bulbs.

Before and after. Apexcone kit 35w 8000k.
