Consol armrest padding

I haven't noticed it yet. How long have you had the new part? Keep having them replace it. It's the only way they'll know there is an issue.

I had the part replaced on 02-28-2011. The CX-9 is not a daily driver, so deterioration would have been much faster if it was.

Can someone post a picture showing how bad the problem is?
We, 2007/2008 owners, cannot imagine the problem since our old consoles have no padding issue (I think).

I'll try to take a picture, if I can. The depression does not really show, it's felt when you run your hand along the console or when you rest your elbow on it. I'll see if I can show it without necessarily appearing that I'm just pressing down on it.

A good description is to imagine a memory foam-type material, wrapped in form-fitting fabric like leather, that does not spring back when one presses on it.

Ceric it's defintely a result of the newer split console design. Mine was as flat as a pancake and was easily seen by the dealer. For me the replacement seems to hold up better to my bony elbow. My guess is that they just need to use denser/better padding.

Hey, I have a bony elbow too. :)

Well, the dealer replaced my center armrest lids, but it seems to be the same style foam. Just after an hour of driving with the new armrest, there is a dimple where my elbow sits. Oh well, it doesn't both me... but why can't it be the same foam from the arm rest in the door??!

Funny there must be different lots of parts because our replacement seems to be holding up much better after a couple months.

I have the same problem with my driver's side door armrest. There is a large dent where my elbow rests. Padding seems real soft. Going to ask the dealer about this as it shouldn't happen with 9K on the car. 2010 CX-9 Grand Touring.

Same problem here. I actually started a thread but got no replies. Let me know how it goes with your dealer. I would like my driver's door armrest replaced. Not sure if they will just call it wear and tear since I am past the 12 month period.

17 months & 20K miles miles into my CX-9, they replaced it no questions asked.

Ive noticed the same thing as well a little indention in the padding where my skinny elbow rest while driving. Took it up to the dealer and the service guy says sounds like normal wear and tear. I told him I only had the car for two months and only have 4000 miles on it. Normal wear and tear my a**. The service guy said he has never heard of this kind of problem before. I think im going to print this thread out and show him that its a common issue and complaint. Im just wondering do I have them replace now or wait and get some more use out of it. I know if they replace the part it will just happen again.

I thought the same, but the replacement has held up well. It still compresses/conforms to my elbow, but overnight it goes back to its original shape and is ready to go again. The replacement definitely has some different material inside of it. At first I was suspicious, but two months later its still looks/feels good. The original was well worn by then.

My dealer didn't argue at all. They simply replaced it, and I had 20K miles when i brought it in.

Yeah after 5 months our replacement is holding up as well. Appears to have been a parts supplier issue. Often it takes a bit of time to get the materials and fit right for a new part. The gull-cover was new for 2010 and it's a great feature. My dealer also didn't even question it. Just took a look at how compressed the original was and said "no problem".

Ive decided to hold off a little bit on this as the padding isnt sight noticeable yet I can just feel where the padding stays compressed in that one spot where the drivers arm rest.

Same problem here.. after only 3 months. We'll take it in the dealer and see what happens.

My 2010 had this issue, but the 2011 I have now has very different padding -- it's much springier, and no lingering indentions.

The dealer told me on the 2010 there was no problem.

I just had my center console replaced on my 2010. Has anyone had to have it replaced twice or will Mazda replace it a second time?

I've had mine replaced twice now, and by the looks of it, it's going to be replaced for a 3rd time. I'll probably raise hell this time and have a regional Mazda representative come out and determine why Mazda uses crap foam material for the center console. Lemon law is not out of the question at this point.
