Considering trading CX9 for Jeep Commander LMTD

I almost bought a loaded Jeep Commander back in 07 when I was shopping for the CX9. It was a left over 06 with everything; navi, rear entertainment, leather, tow, hemi, etc. The sticker was $49k but the guy was going to let us use his last employee price sheet which brought it down to $32k. I passed it up since I was stuck on buying the CX9 as well as I did not want a shiny black Cherokee to clean as well as concerned about the Hemi motor with fuel costs. Now after 3 plus years of the CX9 a dealer down the street has an 07 in dark blue. It would be close to an even trade and still has almost the same accessories. Anyone have an experience with a Jeep Commander good or bad?

I love the CX9, but have been really unhappy with the customer service of Mazda (although it doesn't matter now since out of warranty) and the poor performance in snow (fixed as well with aftermarket rims/winter tires). But the Jeep has real 4 wheel drive, a much bigger motor and better towing ability. I currently pull just my dirt bike and quads, but even get concerned pulling 1500 lbs.

Gas hog.... Better have spare money for fuel. However the Jeep looks good and would tow better.

Personally the only Jeep vehicle I would consider trading my CX-9 for would be the redesigned 2011 Grand Cherokee that should be available soon. However, the Commander is a nice "Land-Rover Dicovery look-a-like". The cons of going with a 2007 model year is that the Hemi did not have MDS (multi-displacement system) which turns-off fuel injection to 4-cylinders when torque is not needed which saves you a bit of gas. Otherwise the Hemi is a big gas hog as stated by FMS1. I am not 100% percent sure about when the MDS was introduced to the Commander (~2008 or 2009) but if you want to go the Jeep Commander route I would definately find one that has all the goodies you want and also has the 5.7L Hemi w/MDS.

I am not sure about the jeep but the hemi received MDS in 2005 on some other vehicles. I have only driven the durango but man that Hemi backed by the 5 speed automatic is SWEEEEEEET.

I owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Nice design but really a very unreliable vehicle. I'd never touch another Jeep (though I was tempted by the diesel version with the Mercedes 3.2liter turbodiesel a couple of years ago).
