Considering the wrx over msp.....

if you want to wait AGAIN.... wait for this. it's essentially the same WRX, but with a major front update and few minor updates.

The front looks like the Hyundai Santa Fe.

if like the mazdaspeed seriously get it, don't be blinded by other things that get in your way, the mazdaspeed is a car, the wrx is a car, get what car will make you happy. Not everyone is going to be the guy with the fastest car in the world, as long as your happy with you car thats all that matters [/B]

Well said, Colin.

Sure if I had the money, the wrx is the one to get.....but, there's no way I'd buy one now with the 2004 coming out. Lets face it, the wrx right now is fugly fugly fugly. If I had the money, I'd buy an MSP for now, and trade it for a 2004 STI two years from now :)

Ok, I'm dreaming.

At Autocross race, I heard some WRX owners complain a lot about WRX brakes and transmission. Even one guy who had an Integra Type R before and now a WRX, told me he was missing his Integra a lot.

If you take a WRX and add some good 17"mags, suspension, body kit, exhaust and sound system..... it's gone a be a hell of a nice car, but it will cost you a lot. The MSP as already all those things!!!

I think if you got money the WRX can be a very good buy but for the price, I think the MSP is realy a good package.

I tried a WRX and I prefer a lot the handling, the sound system and the overall look of my MP3. And with my turbo, the power is realy similar to a WRX.

If I had the money I'd say screw the WRX, and jump on to get a Skyline R-34 *Drool*

And If I had even more money...I'd get a Mclaren F1 :)

Or maybe that Station Wagon Ferari(sp?) made.

We have all seen this before I'm sure

http://www.motorway.com/home/articles/mazdaspeedprotege.asp

The last paragrah states:

"Callaway and Hughes said the Protege's performance will beat anything in its class. Benchmarking at the fabled Lime Rock track in Connecticut showed the Protege topped even the 227-horsepower, all-wheel-drive Subaru WRX, Callaway said. "

What category are they exactly talking about? Speed? Handling? The WRX dnos around 20 more horse power then the MSP right? Putting it to all four wheels instead of just two with the MSP. I don't possible see how it could be faster unless the MSP they were testing wasn't the version detuned for emissions and had a lot more horse power then the one they are releasing.

I read this a while ago and wondered what they were talking about. I figure since it sort of fits into this thread with the comparason maybe someone can explain it.

Is it just a false statement for Callaway to hype up their work, or do you think they actually had some numbers to base this statment on?

They are talking about the car as a whole package. The MP3 will even run circles around the WRX in stock form on a track. But to beat the MP3 or the MSP, all you need is a $1200 coil over package for the WRX and it's bye-bye Protege. The WRX will kill the Protege with a good suspension setup.

and for the second strait day the salesman has NOT called us back..............my dad said that hell call him in the morning if he doesnt call back before noon hell ask for his supervisor.

My salesman has been an asshole, i really want the car though, its so much nicer stock than a wrx, and not that much slower.

a WRX with a proper driver would drive circles around a MSP in rally races, and Autocrossing. Drag...same thing too...

But...the MSP would be a better buy...I just think the WRX is more powerful stock for stock, no question.

Uhhhh,.....no. The stock WRX will NEVER touch an MP3 or an MSP on a track. Power isn't as big a factor as you think it is. The only way that a WRX will beat the MP3 or MSP is with a good suspension setup. I am living proof. I beat SEVERAL WRX's at a local auto-x. I beat them by 3 seconds minimum. Now the modded WRX's were a different story.

I think if you stick with the MSP, you will be getting a much better package... a complete package. Maybe its just because the WRX doesn't do it for me in the looks department (the new one without the heinous headlights is a step in the right direction), but I would go with a MSP any day.

Yeah go ahead and mod your WRXs so they're 13 second cars, and see how fast you can get to that grocery store :D.

It's been proven that between bad turbo lag and a soft suspension, the WRX stick isn't the greatest autocrosser car to have.

It's heavey car too. Now, i'm not talking about modded ones. just stock.

Besides, it's still ugly. Looks like a Neon with swolen eyeballs ( the heads) .....a stoned Neon?

just another practical thought that i didn't see mentioned.......

has anyone here ever tried to do some engine work on a wrx?

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it horribly expensive (and very necessary) to remove a horizontally opposed engine from the car if you need any proper work done? ie headwork?

here in nz, the subaru stable is the notorious for "break the bank" repairs due to exactly that fact!

not to mention that it is the number one risk vehicle for insurers here - you're be lucky to get insurance you can afford - if at all. this is due to obvious driver abuse as well as the abnormally high incidence of subaru vehicle conversion.

i don't know s**** from performance but i'd be thinking about history of reliability and long term maintenance cost as significant factors whichever one i chose. i like them both for different reasons but i have an affinity for mazda - all other things being equal.

Subaru cars are excellent. Check out all the jd power surveys ect. Nothing but rave reviews. There have been few tranny incidents but most likley to the owners fault (awd trannies dont like 7000rpm clutch dumps) I deal with WRX's on a daily basis selling parts and have never come across an unsatisfied suby customer. I am not saying the MSP is bad but the WRX is the superior car. Hell If I would have a choice I would by the MSP because of its bargain, WRX does have issues with insurance rates and is more expensive. Plus WRX's look ugly as s*** stock. They need the JDM lights, 18 inch rims and susp then they look wicked.

never buy a car based on how"fast" it is... speed is only dependnt on a drivers skill (well to an extent)

I'm gonna have to disagree with that one (to an extent) hehe :p. The main reason enthusiasts buy certain cars is becuase how fast they are fresh out of the box. But....a more educated enthusiast will buy a car based on it's potential and based on their driving skills. I've seen dozens of WRX drivers get toasted in stop light races because they tried to launch their WRX like it was their old Civic. I've also seen a few Vishnu Stg. 2 WRX blow Camero SS's away from a roll and at the stop light....WHY, because he knew how to drive his WRX. So what you said is somewhat correct, but I would definately say never buy a car based on how fast it is.;)
