Considering a Mazda3

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Zach, and I recently graduated high school. When I started driving, my father gave me his 2001 Acura 3.2CL Type S and I love the car. I recently learned how to drive a stick, and absolutely love it! My car seems a bit too refined for my tastes now. Now before anyone gives me the obligatory rant about how lucky I am to be driving a car like I am, I want to say that I would never ask my father for any additional money to buy the 3 and am fully aware of how lucky I am. If I bought it, I would sell my car and pay the difference (if any). My question is, do you guys think this is a wise move? Are you happy with your cars in general? Thanks for your feedback!

Yes, you are lucky ;)

You have a really nice car as it is. The 3 would be a step down in power and refinement. That said, for the price the 3 is hands down the best car out there IMO. I have been nothing but pleased with mine so far (5K miles). Go drive one and you will like it I promise!

I'm loving every moment in my 3... Everyday after arriving at work, someone says one of the following things to me:

- "I saw you pulling in to the parkade - That's a nice car!", I reply with thanks for the compliment, and continue to rave about how it's just as fun to drive as it is good looking.

- "I saw you pass me on the highway today! You were moving. That thing looks like it handles really well!", I reply with an ear-to-ear grin, and continue to rave about how well it handles and that the best parts of my day is not just leaving work but getting to work too!

The car has yet to disappoint me, and has tremendous value in both features and now emotionally. (sniff).

(...fade to dream-sequence-like-scene...)

"He gazed longingly into the unilluminated headlight projector lens, and spoke softly into the grille, 'You mean so much to me! I never want to lose you'.

"'Who were you talking to, dear?' called out his wife from the passenger seat.

"Panicing, he quickly replies, 'Just the mailman, sweetheart!'

(...dun-dun-dun-duuuuun..)

"Join us next time, when Bart attempts to talk his way out of a paperbag."

I've had mine since Feb. and love it. My 3 is my 72nd vehicle so I'm no newbie about cars and I say drive it. Then if you still don't want the Acura, buy it.

Am I happy with mine? Yes, very much so.

Do I think your choice is a wise move? I don't know, that depends on lots of factors such as your driving habits, your needs, how much you can get for that Acura and what not. That Acura still has a lot of value left in it most likely, and if you want to sell it to get something that fits you better I say go for it.

Go test drive the 3 it is a lot of car for the money. I have had my since mid April and with the exception of a rattling glove box door I have had 8K carefree and happy driving. That said just yesterday I ordered a Scion tC, it is not going to replace the 3 just sharing garage space. I think the tC has out done Mazda at offering more bang for the buck. Once the car comes in (about 60 ~ 90 days, I special ordered it so it must be built) I will post my observation / comparison once I get it.

Good luck on your car shopping and test drive as much as you can.
