Concerned about shocks

okay when installing springs (whatever the kind), is it a good idea to replace the shocks as well? Becasue someone told me the shocks could blow out from lowering my car and that I'd have to buy better performance shocks. Is this true or just a bunch of :bs: Sorry for the dumb question guys  , but any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. :D

i asked the same question not too long ago...

from the responses i got; i gathered that they will work for a little while... but it is a good idea to get new shocks as soon as possible... the downside to this is that good shocks will run you about $600...

it hella sucks, i know!

It is usually a good idea to upgrade the struts when you get lowering springs. Mazdaspeed does make struts which are used on the MP3 and the MSP. You can order them for $460 for a set of 4 from www.mazdastuff.com

The stock struts will work for a while, just won't last as long as the retuned ones will. You may also look into KYB struts as a less expensive alternative to the Mazdaspeed struts.

You also won't get a very good ride on stock shocks with upgraded springs. Always try to think of them as a whole package. You can't just upgrade one without the other and be please or get near the same benifets.

WOW! goto MazdaStuff.com NOT mazdaformance.com for the MP3 shocks if you're going to get them... you'll save $45

i would be nice to get the best springs, shocks, struts, stabilizer Bar Kit, and front Strut tower bar. too much $$$ for me now, i kinda wanna take it step by step. Anyway, it seems to me people just put lowering springs and thats about it. has anyone on this site installed high performance shocks on their ride?

do you know if kyb makes shocks/struts for the p5? i didnt see them on their site. if they do, how much?

Definately do the struts!! Especially because you have an ES with the regular suspension. The MP3-MS ones handle much better when used with whatever springs you decide to use them with. Not only that but you'll also save a bunch of labor time. I've got a 2002 LX and put H&R's and the MP3 struts. Made a HUGE difference and I haven't even done the swaybars and strut brace yet.
