say i wanted to make an intro for a website similar to the intro of splinter cell...what program would i use to capture whats on the screen in some video format in-game that i could use for editing later?

is it a windows-based game? did you try pressing the print-screen button on your keyboard, then pasting that as a new image into photoshop or windows paint? the print-screen button is supposed to capture the screen image to your clipboard..

not sure if your game disables that feature or not..

good luck with it..

no i can easily take screen shots. i was referring to moving video...im hoping someone knows a program that captures what's on your screen and saves it as an avi or mpg or something.

There is a program called fraps that does exactly what you want. You activate it with a hot key and takes video of whatever is on the screen of your computer. They have a free trial on their site but i think it's like $30 to buy.

here's something that works for everything....although it is a lot more work then fraps ( get fraps man ) but I thought I'd just mention this

You need two computers, both with decent video cards. ONe has to have video out, the other video in. Plug them into to each other, and use the video capture software on the 2nd machine to capture the 1st computers screen....done. Now you have an avi or mpeg of it.

I've got 2 machines and 1 laptop in the house all with video out's/in's so this is easy for me. Works for those copyrighted video's online that you can't right click and save as well.

with fraps (anyone have the website?), can i capture while totally ingame? i tried the first link and it doesnt lock my computer but if i go full screen the computer is so bogged down its unreal and itonly records 1 sec worth of video anyhow? im a total newb when it comes to this stuff, so does anyone feel like explaining how to use frap?

well as soon as i alt-tabbed to go to the game i guess it stopped recording...hey make your sig shorter width-wise, would ya? im runnin 1024x768 and its gotta scroll a whole inch just to see the whole thing...i can do it for you if you dont got photoshop

with premeire u can edit, capture, add effects, and do all sorts of things with a captured video. its really good for editing videos and even capturing. hit me up, ill glady send it to ya free of charge.
