Cold Weather Squeak Video

omg I love this thread because I have this exact s*** and couldn't explain it to anyone. I'm going to the dealer for an oil change tomorrow and will have them lube some s*** up

I have an appointment with the dealer after sending them the video and they want to replace the bushings on all 4 corners as well as the struts.
You shouldn't need struts, that's just wasting Mazda's money.

Dealer's love to just throw parts on there when the OEM is paying...

QFT. Even if it's a great mechanic, oftentimes things don't go back together just right. Besides, if it ain't broke don't fix it, plain and simple. Automakers don't exactly have money to burn these days.

why turn it down if it's free though...I don't get your logic

As a rule of thumb...I NEVER take my car to a dealership unless it's 100% necessary...they often do more damage than good these days.

And as for the free part...I'm sure my neighbor's teenager would love to disassemble my car and check it out...and at no cost to me...

Free doesn't always = good...

For one thing mechanics are sloppy workers most of them so why have the lube monkey tear your car apart when it was built perfectly back in Japan.

Listen to these guys, they speak the truth!

As for the squeaks the OP is encountering, I had squeaks on my last three cars as well, just the colder weather.

Here's an update at what happens at -25 C

The sound never goes away, and its so loud it's actually funny.

IDK, I don't think Mazda built the cars to run in -30. I mean it gets down to maybe 0 in Japan when it blizzards but -30 was probably not on the design board...
If your clutch is that slow when it's cold out then it doesn't surprise me that you have creaks or squeaks.

Look at it this way, at least you have been lucky enough to be able to afford a Mazdaspeed3.

my dealership told me to come back when it's colder cause the one day I make an appointment it gets warm...All I was it the bushings to be greased

All clutches get that syrupy at -30. The clutch on my 94' Civic (cable clutch) got almost rock solid frozen when coming off the highway during a long commute because of the extreme windchill around the car.

It affects both hydraulic and cable clutches.

I was demonstrating just how cold -30 is. However, the powertrain otherwise handled the cold extremely well! It started easily considering its got non-synthetic dead mammals in the pan right now.

The creaks and squeeks shouldn't happen - no other cars do it, we live in that climate a good portion of the year so the folk's 'round these parts would notice something like that.

If it needs only greasing, then there should be a TSB. Otherwise, what this video proves the noise, what it sounds like, and its temperment.

When I came home last night it was 4 degrees and I didnt get and squeeks. Thank god it never gets down to -30.

Yea, anything that moves and is using liquid will slow down in colder temps. Newton's laws (not quoted of course).

I still say you are lucky to be able to afford a car like that. Squeaks or not. Besides, Mazdas get really squeaky during the colder times. My MZ3 acquired around 6 rattles, squeaks, and creaks that weren't there 2 months ago when it was warm.
