Cold Weather = Lousy MPG?

There are also some other veribles in play here. Transmission oil gets very thick in cold weather, making it harder to turn in the case. It warms up after a bit, bit it still will suck MPG down to s***. A car will also burn more gas turning over your cold oil until it warms up. And running the AC when the defrost it turned on (its automatic) doesn't help out either.

Although I was doing the same style of driving my MPG went to s*** ever since air temperature has started to cool down. I used to get 40 miles to a gallon in the summer doing top speed 55mph with very little acceleration. Now I have a very hard time to get 30mpg on a highway and there is nothing I can do. Air in a tires do not help, new spark plugs, oil change, slow driving and very low revving.

My best guess: CAI has a lot to do with this I am almost sure. I am going to do 2 things:

1) change my CAI to short RAM and

2) close my front air inlet to keep engine compartment as warm as possible to introduce hottest air into the engine, hopefully this will help
