Cold Start Rattle?

This is my first of which I hope to be many postings. It's great to have this type of communication amongst owners! I just aquired my mica speed Protege and love it. I gave the salesman a ride he keeps talking about! My background is in German race cars (www.delsingmotorsport.com), but I love this car for the value package it presents. That's why I have it as my personal ride!

Ok, now about the rattle. Is anyone else experiencing a rattle, like maybe the valve buckets pumping up at say first cold start in the AM or after a long park? Years back my sentra SER did a similar thing.

Looked up the posted TSB concerning a similar experience which stated something about the Variable Tumble Control System, what ever that is! Comments?

I've got the rattle also. The dealer described it as a bunch of marbles in a tin can. He said it is normal for all Proteges and is more prominent in the P5's. The MSP's received the new ECU program which quiets down the tumblers signifigantly. While at the dealership, I started a P5 and the sound was horrible. The MSP is nothing compared to the P5.

I have the rattle.....it dies down as the car warms up though. Welcome to the board, Later.

Wife's PR5 does it to.

I thought it was a loose heat shield or something. But it only does it when it's cold. Im not worried about it. Sounds fine after we start to drive just upon the initial start does it rattle.
