Cold Air Intake

To clarify a little, the hole will still be on the opposite side of the air filter from the engine. You won't be sucking unfiltered air into your TB, just unrestricted.

On the :wtf: tip, there's a weird whistling noise around 3000 RPM, now. I can live with it but I think some sort of airflow aid (cone filter, velocity stack, etc) will be in order for those who don't go with a CAI.
 
thast was me talking about the throttle bodies. generally those are as restrictive as the intake, but i don't have my 3 yet so i havnt gotten to see them.
 
wistle is present with cai....wistle sounded better on my other car...kinda like a bov. I need a catback bad cause when flooring it.... it sounds like the cat and resonaor gives it a holow tin can exhaust note for the 6...:(
 
goldwing-thank you, thats what i was tryin ta ask. i thought there would be unfiltered air goin into the engine but i get it now. this thread has answered some good questions for me. and it looks like i know what im doin tomorrow (takin off my resinator). (spin)

Glad ..."WE" could help! just don't have too much fun afterwards.
 
No offense, but for someone who has on their signature that they are an ASE cetified Mechanic, you really should know what a resonator is.

Welp... I took out the resonator.

Took me all of about 30 mins to figure out where it was, how it attached and get it out. Could probably do it again in half the time. No restrictor plate in the airbox that I noticed. Once the rez was out, I could see the bottom of the filter through the hole in the airbox (which is about 2 7/8", in case anybody's interested).

Results:
-Definitely adds more bass to the intake system. Good sound at WOT but not so loud that it's annoying. Still whisper quiet at idle.
-SOP Dyno is still undecided. It seems a little peppier but it's hard to tell if it's real or just imagined. A K&N should definitely help out.
-Fun Factor is way up. (2thumbs)

I'll post the procedure in another thread if anybody else wants to do the mod.

I never said I didn't know WHAT it was, I said I had to figure out WHERE it was. If you've ever seen the intake system on a 3, you'll understand what I mean.

yeah I puled resonators off alot of cars.....and i never seen a setup like the 3...I was expecting to see the resonator from the 6 in there.....plus this ins't something you see done at dealerships...or other places where you get your car serviced....they fix the cars to oem specs....not find ways to improve...for free so if you ask a dealer or the guy at midas they would call you an idiot right back....he had a clue what it was...but as stated before...I never seen such animal like that come out of the fenderwell of a car....please save things like this for pm cause we are here to help each other not attack each other.
