Cold Air Intake

I was wondering if anyone has the CAI mazdaspeed part number? My dealer knows nothing about this car. Every time I call they want to order a CAI for the mazda 3. I cannot get it in their head that the mazdaspeed name does not imply that it is for the mazdaspeed 3. I tried to explain but they don't understand. I am now contimplating just buying the CPE CAI and forgetting about the mazda part. Any opinions on which intake is better in quality?
Thanks
Trevor

CP-E ALL THE WAY!!!

I just installed my CAI from Mazdaspeed and it is amazing in the difference and sound that it makes. Install time took about an hour and a half. Not that hard. I purchased the K&N filter before I bought the intake and just that alone made some difference. So if anyone local wants the K&N filter, let me know. Only has one day of use on it.......

How did the sound change?

Is it a deeper rumble or just louder? I'm contemplating getting my MS3 with all the performance upgrades. But I don't want it to be loud to the point where long drives are annoying.

Neither. It sounds like a shop vac in the distance when you accelerate with an occaisional compressed air burst when you back off. Having said that, I don't find it in the least annoying, mostly entertaining. On long drives you will be mostly in cruise mode where you can't hear anything from it. Not to worry.

Thank you

Thanks for the description. It helps immensely.

does anyone know how much power, or about how much the CAI will add?

I can't speak for the CPE, but the MS CAI is adding about 10-11% more HP from the various dynos on this forum. (Mine included)

I stand by that I an running the CP-E CAI as well and its well worth it.

I am sure it is! I wasn't dogging CP-E. I was just trying to say that the MS CAI is also well worth it.... I personally only chose the MS CAI because of the possible warranty issues with using the CP-E product.

i have the ms cai and just ran into a problem. The rubber gromet that holds the intake to the body snapped. I went down to the dealer and they opened another intake and gave me the new piece in 2 minutes. One benefit of buying from the dealer probably. Before this happened i started to notice the splash shield was starting to rub on the frame which was probably the reason the gromet snapped. For some reason the intake moved after about 2k miles of driving and u can see the marks on the splash shield rubbing on the frame which was probably caused from so much engine movement. I was thiking maybe this was caused by a motor mount giving out but seems to be fine, any advice on that?

Hmmm...no problems yet, but I have only had mine on for about 800 miles... (I haven't even broken 2000 miles total on the car yet!)
