Coins in the CD Player...Maybe?

Well, my darling 2 year old daughter was playing driver, and, like her Daddy, put a CD into the CD player, the only problem is, that I think it wasn't a CD, but a penny. I say I think, because I am not really sure. I found 2 pennies right on the lip of the opening, but not sure if any are, actually, in the CD player. I haven't used the CD player since, but the tuner works fine.
Anyone have any ideas how to check it out, short of turning it on and listening for the mechanism crunch itself into oblivion?
I would hate to pay hundreds (?) just to find out, after taking it apart, that there was nothing there.
I have a 2004 Mazda3.

Short of pulling the head unit out so you can gently shake it, and tilt it forward to see if anything falls out, I'd take the car over a few bumpy roads & listen for rattles from the head unit.

It has been that way for a week and I haven't heard anything, so maybe we are free and clear!

Well, if the CD player is still functional then it should work. The tuner should obviously still be working since its not connected to that function.

I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that it ddn't make any rattling noises, either.

For future reference, if you suspect that someone stuck anything other than a CD into your CD Player, do not try to insert a CD and see if it still works. That's a bit of a gamble. It is very possible that a small object could be pushed into the slot and not be the right size/shape to activate the auto-on function of the CD player. If you then stick a CD in there and the different parts start moving around, that tiny object could become a much larger problem.

Also, the rattling of a penny inside a CD player (on or off) could be the end of your player.



My advice would be to take a pitchfork and stab the face off of the CD player to find the penny.
