Cobb intake problems.. Need Advice

Whats up everyone, I usually just read the forums and not post. But have been having some issues with my Cobb SRI. The problem is that in 5 and 6 gear and sometimes in 4 I get real hard fluttering when I go WOT but no problems in 1-3 gears. I have read about some people having issues with this and others not. I was wanting to know if this is common on the MS3's and how to fix it. I know that with a tune or Cobb AP will fix the fluttering but at the time will have to wait on that.

a bpv will might help..but i had my stock valve in wit the cobb sri for a bit, nd i didnt have that prob.. if u want ur car to run perfect, u need an ap, fuelpump upgrade, and a tune... but tr the valve, anything is better than that plastic s***..

I had that too, before I got a turbosmart valve. The stock valve looks like junk, once I took it off I was surprised that it held more then 5-10psi. When I still had the stock bpv on with an intake and a turbo inlet, under boost in 5th and 6th gear you could hear it cracking, sounded like it wanted to explode.

Ok thanks, I will look into getting one and see if that fixes the problem. It's just so annoying driving on the freeway and trying to pass someone and the car feels as if its starting to boost up and then loses boost. It makes the car feel rough and the acceleration not smooth because of it.

No expert here, but I have a friend who just sold an MS6, and he told me that from Day 1, that stock BPV has been known to be a POS because it couldn't hold boost. That would explain the fluttering sound. Seems logical.

(Bpv newbie) Not intending to hijack this thread or anything.....but what are some of the best bpv options out there? In terms of performance and ease of install.

Thanks

The Forge BPV literally takes about 5 minutes to install.

From what everyone has been saying it seems to be the BPV. I will look into getting a forged unit. Hopefully that will fix the issue. I don't want to have to go back to stock. Does anyone know of any group buys or other deals going on for the Forge piece. Thanks

Everyone on these forums will tell you to get a Forge valve, but before you do make sure you hear it, whether it's on youtube or in person. Many people hate the sound, and many love it. I personaly can't stand it. One guy around town here went out and bought one, hated the sound so much he sold it the next day. I went with a Turbosmart dual port bov. You can run it recirc(bpv) or vent to air(bov) or even half'n'half(hybrid). It's a bit more $ but performance and sound is pure sex.

Yup, that is exactly what it was for me. It's a stock bpv crapping out. Aftermarket bpv/bov will fix this issue.

i have the forge, takes 2min to install, sounds great nd holds alot more boost, rlly any valve is better than the stock,, personally i would stick to a diverter not a vent to air,, i no kids who have vents to air and my cars valve is louder and runs better, u dnt need a vent to air to get good sound,, to each his ouwn though

Hmmmm... So do all aftermarket BPVs have that puffing noise? Are there any silent ones? How come I've never heard stock one make such a noise?

forge is a great buy ($160) / perfect fitment but you do get the ping which some people hate. i don't mind it since you already have the intake wooshing.

I was listening last night to the forged bpv and damn Im glad you said something about the sound it makes, not the normal sound Im use to hearing. Crazy how it makes the ping noise. It may just be something I need to get use to but Im leaning towards another kind instead of the forge unit, but the price is right and Im tired of the flutter so may just go with the forge unit.

Thanks again to everyone for there help and opinions.

I actually emailed Forge the other day because they have 2 BPV's on their website for the MS3. They told me that the new one that they have does not make that noise. I am considering getting that one because I dont like the sound either. The part number is FMDVMAZ3S. They also told me that the new one was designed a little bit different because some people were complaining that the older model rubbed against the engine cover.
