Cobalt SS best handling FWD EVA

So people are talking about how the new cobalt ss/sc is the best handling FWD car ever made :bs: according to motortrend in a recent comparison between the cobalt vs the srt-4

the slaloms were as follows

600-foot slalom 67.2 mph avg 65.9 mph avg
Lateral acceleration 0.88 g avg 0.88 g avg

and the mazdaspeed held 0.88 g with a slalom of 72mph

so whats all this hype about? maybe we can get motortrend C&D R&T sport car compact to make a difinitve statment of the best handling FWD car ever made

From Sport Compact Car's review of the 2003 MSP:

"Because of the Mazda's massive grip, mild manners and performance potential from its turbocharged engine, this car is our new benchmark for production car front-drive performance. That's right, it has knocked the old Acura Integra Type R off the mountain."

why is it so hard to believe that the Cobalt SS is a great handling car?

Cause it's replacing the Cavelier. And it's a chevy. And because American cars are not best known for handling.

its not riding on a j-body chassis though, the SS has a fully independent suspension with euro spec fluid filled bushings and different control mechanisms, etc etc

i am personally waiting to drive one, i have heard the wheels are wayyyy to wide for the car, but i think its the coolest american sport compact in a long time.

Come again? Does it have JDM headlight fluid as well?

Haha, I don't htink it's a bad car either, and I would like to drive one, I just don't think it deserves the title of "best handling FWD car ever" Numbers aren't all important.

um..i rode around in one, I expected more. A lot more. It's perfect for someone who wants to drive around in a cushy sport compact with just a breath of pep.

LOL that motor trend report is a freaking joke to begin with. Did you notice all the GT4 mentions they were putting it in there. Horrible article.

I really like it. If I had loot to kill I would get one.

I drove an SS.. I hated the shifter and it still felt poorly constructed.. I wouldn't pay more than 16k for it..

Yeah, unfortunately the MSP was taken out by the 2005? Focus N20. Did something like .94 lateral.

FOCUS!? AAHHHHGGGGG!! Talk about "unfortunately." Anything even loosely based on Focus...I can't even type right now I'm so shocked. That has to be one of THE ugliest cars that Ford has ever made imo. It could be 3x faster and handle 10x better and I'd still think it just came out the back end of a Yak. I mean, you could put Brianna Bank's tits on it, and I would still puke when I saw it. It's like Butt-head said: "Beavis, sometimes you just can't polish a turd."

It uses an identical suspesion set-up to the VW Golf's. GM even went so far as to buy a Golf, take it apart, and copy it's suspension. We all know that Golf's are known for poor handling. Granted GM did a decent job with the car and it does handle better than a Golf, it's still not a good as an MSP. A friend of mine has an Ion Redline and I was fairly impressed with it's handling. He can keep up with me pretty well in really tight and twisty roads.

are you kidding me i put sn SS to test on the GM's in motion autoshow. That thing was a joke. the backend kicked out like no one's business 10 times worse the the msp. the track workers looked at me and was like How the **** did u do that. I was like i dunno know, the suspension sux? the acceleration was good but when it comes down to it, the SS does not handle like the MSP
