Hello! A buddy of mine is trying to sell me a 2022 MX-5 Miata CMU for $100 for my 2019 CX-5 sport. He says it comes with the built in wireless apple car play and should be compatible, maybe a few connectors needed. I already have and use the wired hub for cp. I was hoping to confirm the model before I give in as these usually go for a lot more.

The cmu in question is part # TC3N-66-9C0F. Googling around it seems tc3n-66-9c0A (ending with the 'A' or G) could work in a 2019 cx5 but I cant find any info about this 'F' model.

If finding out it is compatible and has wireless cp, might my original 7" display screen work with it? my screen has ghost touch so i'm not opposed to getting a new screen or dare try the 8" version.

I posted this question on another newer forum site so I hope im not breaking any rules here. Thanks guys

Excellent price.
Yes, it does come with CP wireless built-in.
It's plug and play. No extra connectors needed.
F it's a higher super-session part number, so it should be better.
Yes it will work with the 8" display screen, but maybe the trim around it needs to be changed.

Replacing the display itself doesn't appear to be too difficult, according to what I've seen on YouTube. If the wireless CP doesn't work, maybe you could swap over the wired CP setup to the new CMU? Worst case scenario, none of it works, and you can sell it to someone else for the same price (or more). I would buy it from your buddy at that price - it's worth the gamble IMO.

dont know about Miatas but the cx5 2022 cmu is nextgen and not compatible with pre-2022 models. The software is also different.

AA/CP uses Bluetooth to set up the initial connection, but uses wi-fi from then on to pass the actual data.

My 2024 doesn't use Wi-Fi, so it must all be Bluetooth.
I think you'll find you are mistaken. Turn off the wi-fi on your phone (but leave Bluetooth on) then get in your car and start up. If the AA/CP starts, you should find the wi-fi has automagically turned back on on your phone.

FAQ

  • Does Android Auto work over Bluetooth?

Bluetooth functionality does not provide enough bandwidth for everything Android Auto can do. So Android Auto instead taps into your phone’s Wi-Fi capability. It uses Bluetooth for specific voice calls, but Bluetooth alone won’t allow you to use it.

Interesting. I never connected Wi-Fi in the car so how does it use it? I agree there may not be enough bandwidth with BT only however the latest version provides a lot more than the old days (typically used for high bitrate music streaming).

I was mistaken on the year that cmu is for, its for 2021 Miata/Mazda6/cx5 (not '22). Not sure if that makes a difference or not being able to work on a 2019. Im still on the fence. One hand says order take a gamble, the other says hold off lets try to confirm it. 🤔
