Clutch Question

Hope this is the right section..

but this is my first time driving stick and i know you're not supposed to ride the clutch, but let's say on hills and stuff i have the clutch half way depressed adding a little gas to balance the car, is that bad? Or am i supposed to use the ebrake thing? What about during rush hour when cars move at like 5-10 km/h and when i actually fully release the clutch in 1st it jolts cuz i'm moving so slow, so i have the clutch halfway down and add some gas to get me moving and then coast on neutral a bit. Any tips would be appreciated.

It is better to do the e-brake thing when on a hill.
When i am in traffic like that i usually let my foot off the clutch until the car gets moving then i push my foot back down on the clutch and it will roll for a little bit, just enough to move about 5-10 feet.

by doing the "balancing act" as you described it....with the clutch half way in and feathering the gas...you are SLIPPING THE CLUTCH....this is BAD....it will lead to premature failure of your clutch disc.....if you are on a hill....do the E-brake thing if you must....that or just practice and get the timing down so you just use the regular brake and the gass.... you gotta be quick so you don't roll back...but its a doable thing....the ebrake trick works well too and its a lot easier.

As far as being in traffic....just move about 10 feet at a time....shifting back to neutral and releasing the clutch each time...yeah its a Pain in the Butt....but it will be the best for your clutch and keep it in prime condition MUCH longer.

Not a good thing to do....

Use your regular brake so you get used to it. Your not going to use the ebrake for ever...

Practice makes perfect! using the ebrake your only cheating yourself...

what they said...lol

it just takes a little practice to get used to it...and soon it will just click and you'll be like "oh...that's so simple"...

just remember to definitely let go of that clutch...don't keep it down all the time...unless you want to get a new clutch....hmmmmmmm....no no...can't afford it yet...
