Clutch pedal welds

Has any had problems with the clutch pedal welds failing on the mazdaspeed protege?

I was driving back to work one day after lunch and I pressed the clutch down and heard a loud pop.. Car wouldn't go into gear so I coasted to a stop and looked at my pedal hanging with nothing holding it to the original mounting place. I can actually see day light from where it broke off. I used a metal bar to put pressure on the clutch so I could drive homek. This has been a huge headache since it happened. Looks like I will have to take the dash off so I can remount it with some nuts and bolts. I was looking on another forum where they said that the mazda rx8 has the same issue.


Has anyone experienced this or have any idea of what the best fix for this problem would be? My protege has 205,XXX miles on it and It is my daily.. Never seen anything like this before.lol

I have never heard of this problem before, but you definitely don't have to pull the dash to replace the pedal assembly.
