Clutch Kit??

i dont know if the Flywheel is contributing to the Chatter but it sounds like your dealership has a bunch of cocks working for them! the TSB straight up says to replace it, it took you a bunch of phone calls to finally have them listen to you and now their trying to skimp you on the work and NOT replace the flywheel?!?!?! what a bunch of dicks!

i would call Mazda and file a complaint about the dealership... either their incompitent or they dont care... either way they shouldnt be working for Mazda...

ok, so for those that are having this issue resolved at the dealership, are you having to pay anything? Since this is not a recall, I am wondering if there is any cost involved...

no cost... its not a recall, but its a faulty part and Mazda knows it... thats why they updated the part for the 2003 models... and thats why they offer the service/parts for FREE...

Mountjonas...Take the car in and see what they replace. When I took mine in they first said we'll replace two things, but then when ordering the parts he said it was a "clutch kit" and all three were packed together. the dealer's probably just uninformed not being an intentional d---head

But yo! you"re making progress!

they already ordered the parts. they gave me a list of the parts and i checked them against the tsb. they ordered 4 parts, the clutch disc, cover and two sets of bearings... no flywheel. i'm gonna call them tomorrow morning to ask what exactly they're doing to my car and why they didn't order the flywheel, but yes, at least i'm making some progress.

I got my car fixed!!! If you guys want, i can scan a copy of the invoice so you can show your dealer(s) what they did to my car and it clearly states TSB. :-)

yeah, i just got my car back this afternoon! i love it... i put 33k miles on it then get a brand new clutch and flywheel :D

MountJonas, did you still want the info for my dealer?

I happen to be one of the folks who has also had no luck getting 3 different dealerships to find any TSB on the clutch chatter. I also called Mazda customer service and they did not find anything regarding a service bulletin either. I took a copy of the TSB to the dealer and they dismissed it as well.

I also have had problems reproducing the chatter when I took it to the dealer, primarily because it tends to be intermittent. On some days it chatters everytime I take off, but other days it doesn't do it much, if at all.

This is my first Mazda. Although I cant argue with how fun this car is to drive, it has generally made a poor showing in some basic areas (clutch chatter, grindy shifting when cold, cold engine rattle, broken CD player, leaking oil cap on valve cover, soft engine mounts). Unfortunately, all the running around I've done trying to solve this clutch problem (unsuccessfully) has only convinced me to not get another Mazda. It doesn't make sense that on a year old car, I'm essentially being forced by Mazda to spend close to 1000 bucks on replacing the clutch and flywheel.

Where are you located? Are any of the dealers that have repaired the problem for others here on the board in your general vicinity?

Milwaukee Metro area. I don't know if others on this board are in my area with the same prob that I have.

Well, if you really feel like driving you can come to Speedway Mazda in Indianapolis. They will do the work.
