I'm not sure if any of you have/had this problem, or even if any of you solved it already, but if you are hearing a "clunk" sound from the rear of your MP3, it is caused by over-sized stabilizer bushings. Some other people over at the MP3 Yahoo! Group were having this problem as well. The bushings are actually too big for the rear stabilizer. It would actually slap around inside them, creating the BANG or CLUNK sound. My dealership didn't replace my bushings, but they did "shimey and re-clamp" them (apparently pressing them tighter to the stabilizer bar) which has caused the clunk sound to disapear. Unfortunately, the noise may return after a while due to the fact that the bushings are still too big. To address this problem, they have placed a call to Mazda and will get back to me when they hear something. (Soon I hope!) Hope this helps alleviate some frustration! :D

what is that yahoo site. is there more people then this site??? i would like to check it out :)

Sounds like we may be on to something, definetly keep us updated. Paul, weren't your on your way in to get this checked out at one point? :p

yea, i already had it in once im taking it back on mon. they are gonna fix my gear prob. and look at my squeeking prob. so it looks like i will have to go back again to get the squeek fixed.

I think my clunk sound is coming back! Briefly heard it today. I had the bushings in the back replaced about a month ago, and everything was fine till now. I'll keep people posted.

Maybe tht guy is right. The bushings are too big, get loose after time and shimmy.

I too suffer from this. I'll wait a week or so before I take mine in so I can print up a bunch of emails with results to show the dealer. That way my dealer can't be like "Dude thats normal with a performance car" :D.

Jonlisle:

Thanks for your comments!

My experience (2008 MX5) is that I hear a clunk from the rear upon starting from cold, when the car reaches about 10mph (not dependent on which gear I'm in).

Thereafter, the clunk does not occur until I've had the car parked for more than 30 or 60 minutes.

Has this been you experience?

Thanks
ArnoldT
