Clinking sound while shifting.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and would like to get some help or advice here.
I bought an 04' Mazda3s Hatchback a few days ago with 35000 miles on it. It's manual. Problem is, that I've been hearing a noise that seems to be coming from right side, somewhere near the floor around the center console area. I hear the sound when I shift gears, and the car rocks forward and backward from letting off the gas and then accelerating again. As soon as I let off the gas after shifting, there it is. It's kind of loud random clicking and it seems to get better and almost go away after few minutes of driving. It's metalic sound and it sounds something like two coins hitting each other or something like that.
Any idea what it can be? I want to go to the dealer and if possible I want to have at least some knowledge about this before I go, because otherwise they will send me home with claim, that it is normal and no poblem whatsoever...

I appreciate your help very much. Thank you.

If the car was raced a lot with a lot of missed shifts and synchro collar grinding, it could be worn syncronizers, I think. Read the following web page:

Good luck!

Most likely, the clicking noise comes from the gear shifting cables clicking inside the housing. You will find the fix in the link I enclosed below. I had the same issue as you described, and, putting tie cables on the shifting cables underneath the car solved the problem. If you need more info just search under "gas clicking noise" on the other forum. Good luck!

P.S. Look for pictures showing the fix from "DaddiesRedRaceCar" forum member.

Hi, I have a Mazda 3 2005 33,000kms and I am also experiencing a faint clicking noise when I start and on low gears. It sounds like its coming somewhere in the middle of the console or around the gear box. It kind of sounds similar to the previous problem. It doesn't seem major, but it's slightly annoying especially as I just bought the car.

Any other suggestions? Could you please repost the link above to see if it might be the fix?

Thanks,
ZoZ
