Clicking/Clunking noise at slow speeds

Hello,

Purchased a 2025 CX-5 now with only 1,000 miles. Recently I’ve noticed a faint clicking/clunking noise when coming to a stop or traveling at slow speeds. It sounds like it’s related to the transmission but I’m not entirely sure. Has anyone here noticed this reoccurring noise and if so what exactly is it? On Reddit someone mentioned it’s normal and has something to do with the torque converter locking/unlocking?

That is the torque converter disengaging.

Mazda keeps it locked for direct engagement until very low speeds. This required a beefier clutch design than other automakers use.

It's just one of those things we have to get used to, even if it is a little annoying.

Hi, I have a 2025 CX-5 and I’ve experienced this since day one. I thought that’s how the “unique” torque converter was supposed to work, but I recently test-drove a colleague’s Skyactiv Mazda 3 and didn’t notice anything like that in her car. I also got feedback from several CX-5 owners who don’t have these clicks/clunks either. Did you ever figure it out?
