Clear corner lenses

If these will fit onthe MP3 (which I think they will) I'm very interested and can PP the $ over if I'm able to be added to the list.

Once again, welcome home!

No problem, suke. I added you to my list on 11FEB04. I should be starting them soon.

I'll be interested after I seem them on a MP3, then definately probably will want one. So if you want I can be on the list as a interested, and almost sold! :P

"JDH-spec" Headlights!

Here is the scoop; I went into work (early) just to get the material for these. I brought more than enough home and started a "test" set for myself. More than 4 hours (including bumper removal) with a heat gun, dremel, sand paper, etc. Here are the results: a pair of one-off, fully hand-formed (curved), clear but reflective (now have orange bulb) corner lenses. Oh, and I used 3M double sided tape to mount the lenses.

Now, the bad news. After spending as much time as I did on mine, I am no longer sure I want to make these.

The main reasons;
-It is really better to produce them with the bare headlamp housing (dark grey "frame" piece) available, so that I could test fit them before sending them off. Since I don't have a spare headlamp housing, I would not be able to do this. While I would do my best to make these contoured identical to my stock amber ones, they each fit a little differently and the only way I could make everyone happy is to test fit them, which I have no way of doing.

-I have a feeling that making these will take longer than I am interested in commiting to, especially for the estimated $20/pr I stated early on. While I would be open to pursuing this if everyone out there was willing to pay more; I dont feel that that (raising the price) is the right thing to do.

-Also, they are extremely delicate and prone to cracking during the creation process, making me want to do whats below even more.

I think I will contact a plastics company this week and see about having some lenses produced by a machine. No idea on price or feasibility, so don't ask.

In the mean time, I want to thank the 25 folks on my 'waiting list' for their patience, and will strongly evaluate all the factors before I make any decisions about what to do (it is 4 am right now and I just finished mine, so I am quite tired).

Good night, enjoy the pics, and thank you Coley for the big help!

First of all, those look awesome! It is totally understandable what you're doing & I think it's great that you're trying so hard to make sure they are excellent quality. We've all been patient this long...I know I personally have no problem waiting however long it takes to find a solution. I would be willing to pay more for them though. :D

LSC corner lenses.

Thanks, I like the way they turned out too. Can ya tell I am obsessed with clear corners/carbon fiber!?! (I once made a set of clear corner and tail lights for my old Lincoln Mark VII). haha!

Anyway, I will keep in mind what you said. The more feedback from everyone the better.

hey, i'd definitely be willing to pay more than 20 bones too. They look great, even the ones on the Lincoln! hehe

if you can blend in the side clear lenses a little more so they don't look too genetic, i will sign up right away

later

No offense, but the clear lenses don't match up well on the sedan (dark charcoal housing). Not too sure about the Protege5 (chrome housing) though. If you don't want the amber (orange) reflector, it may be a lot easier, better looking and cheaper to buy BlueBatMobile's headlight overlays (that go on top of the headlights) to cover the reflector. They look great. Here is the thread to pics of them on my car: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54069

I think the clears look rad. With the clear side markers' it matches well. I bought some spare headlamps and am planning on doing the JDM conversion so the housing is all black.

If all else fails I will just nightshade the junk out of the current orange reflectors.

i got chrome housing =)
