Okay, so i bet most of you guys know what i'm talking about with how rich the MSP runs, but my exhuast tip has had tons of black buildup crud on the bottom edge of the tip since i got it. I had tried using car soap and an old mitt on it when i got it, and when that didn't work i kinda figured i couldn't do anything with it.

Well, the catback has been off of the car for a while, but its going back on today. I figured if ever there was a time to clean it it would be now when its off of the car.

I tried full strength simple green on it..... i can see where small spots of black have flaked off on the bottom edge, and some of it came off real easy on the sides, but i can't seem to get the large majority of it off. I was just hitting it with the simple green and then trying to scrub it off with a rag.

Any tips??

i tried some old turtle wax polishing compound thats in my garage from who knows when, it took care of most of it. I may try one of the things you guys suggested down the road though to try and get all of it.

Thanks!

simple green and then mother's mag & aluminum polish. if it's built up that good use 0000 steel wool with the simple green.

Barkeeper's Friend and a scotch non-scratch scuff pad is what I use. Comes right off and its shiney like new in there.

basicly the best thing I've used is some ecoline blue tech spray it'll take anything off from metal to maf sensers so it's delacate enough to do small jobs but effective enough to do the job. just becarefull of the fumes there a combination of pure alcohol in a petrolium base.

DUNK degreaser at canadian tire.. i use it to clean the rear wheel on my zx9 because of the chain wax build up it leaves behind..

works great on the exaust tip.. just put some on a rag and on the exaust tip.. the more you put on the easier it takes off..

wash weekly.

obviously......

but i bought the car with 36K miles, and it didn't look like it had ever been washed right there. I didn't know of any good ways to clean it off but i figured since it was off of the car it would be a good time to try other methods, since i wouldn't have to worry about getting abrasive/damaging materials on the paint. As soon as i get it fully cleared off, i'll be hitting it with some zaino sealant so that i don't have this problem ever again...

Again thanks for the tips guys.

use the mothers wading polish stuff... works great... under 5$ at advance auto.. well at least it was when i got it... takes 2 min of some scrubbin and rubbin and its gone..
