cleaning CAI filter

Didn't see any threads about this when I searched.

Ive got about 7K miles on my intake so I figure its time to clean it. I might end up just buying a new filter but just for kicks how do you clean it??

Do you need a special formula and just scrub / soak it?? Also don't they have a protective "oil" coating on them. I can't remember clearly but I thought my filter was oily before I put it on.

I don't recall for sure, but think the Injen is the same as the Mazdaspeed. If that is the case, then you have what is called a dryfilter which is not oiled like a K&N. There is a special cleaning solution which you should use to clean it with. I just did my Mazdaspeed CAI filter last year, basically you mix the cleaner with water and let the thing soak for a while, then rinse it out and let dry. I would blow off loose dirt with air before soaking it, make sure you blow from the inside out (and don't use too much pressure so you don't wreck the filter).

I would recommend doing a 'Net search and seeing what Injen recommends to use. You might be able to find the cleaner at your local auto parts store.
