Clanking sound

Last night as I was pulling into a driveway, I started hearing a sound that for all the world made me think I was pulling a beer can behind my car on a string.

I looked under the car to make sure I wasn't dragging anything, and I couldn't see anything loose hanging down. Then the sound went away, but it came back this morning.

It seems to be triggered by pulling into a steep driveway, or by making a sharp low-speed turn.

I've got a 2006 MS6 sport with 30K miles. A search of the forum didn't really turn up anything, except someone said they had a loose cover on the rear diff.

Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me (site unseen) like it may be one of many things. Off the top of my head it makes me think maybe part of your exhaust has come off the exhaust hanger. It also may be a loose, worn, or broken shock or strut.

In my previous car, a 3-series BMW, I was in an accident and the shop did not replace the front struts. Afterward they would make a weird banging/clanging noise over steep changes in road surface and when I would turn sharply.

Iheard the same exact thing on my car passager side. On a steep driveway, or by making a sharp low-speed turn. It sound like the tire is contacting the plastic under the fender but theres NO indication of that. I have 51,000 miles and my car has been doing it for the las 10,000 miles.

If any find in the cause let me know. It has been driving me crazy.

I have the same problem, usually at a low speed lugging or on a hill.

Check your exhaust tip and the inside of the exhaust holes on the rear bumper fascia, they are hitting. At speed mine are fine, but when the car shakes too much (idle) or the angle is right they touch.

I have a similar issue. Except when I hear this clang noise that only appears after I press the brake from backing up. Put the car in reverse, reverse and press the brake. I took it to Mazda twice and they couldnt dup the issue. I also have this whining noise appear in an gear, ONLY at 3100-3200 RPM's. Anyone else experience those 2 issues?

Do you use your parking brake? If so, it sounds like the parking brake is sticking a little bit and when you go into reverse it pops loose again.

Oh yeah I know that sound. I only hear that right after I clean my car and let it sit a while. Yeah thats nothing. This sound appears when put in reverse, give it a little gas and press the brake. I'm taking it in next thurs for that and the whining noise at 3100 RPM.
