Check this out.

So, my right rear has been making noise over sharp bumps lately. Since I did struts and springs six months ago, I assumed something had loosened. I took out my interior trim because that is where it sounded like it was coming from and nothing was wrong. So, I started looking under the car and found this (picture one). The trailing arm is worn through. I guess whoever owned this before me lost a wheel while moving? I don't know any other explanation. But, it is worn through and is not even holding in place. I can't believe it hasn't bent my control arm because we play around a lot using the e-brake, if you know what I mean. If you know where I can get one, let me know. The second picture is the other side just so you can compare.

More likely they hit a rock or other debris hard and it smashed the outer part of the "case". If they lost a wheel a lot more would be chewed up than the one trailing arm.

Yeah, I'm thinking if you dropped a wheel a damaged trailing arm would be the least of your worries. :)

I just find it amazing how people can go around completely unsuspecting of these sorts of things and think its totally okay lols. Not saying its you cbrcrx im talking about the previous owner lols

There are other things scraped under there and the rear and side have been repainted.

They probably scraped a curb or something rather than lost the entire wheel - I'm thinking there'd be a lot more damage. But I was also half joking, so... (wiggle)

It's pretty hard to lose a wheel while moving, short of idiocy (leaving the lug nuts off) or catastrophic mechanical failure. Now you tell us nearby parts were repainted and it is scraped up elsewhere on the bottom. Well, getting hit by a pickup or other large vehicle can twist a wheel over so far that that corner of the car drops onto the pavement. Hard to see though how the trailing arm could have made it through that kind of collision in a healthy enough state to be put back on the repaired vehicle.

What did the carfax say?

I don't believe in CarFax. I have a friend who totaled his car and it never showed up on there. I've heard of others have minor hail damage being called totaled. It's really a moot point anyway. I have a replacement on the way.
