Check Engine Light

5500 miles on my CX7, CEL just came on yesterday morning. Fuel cap is tight, so I'm not sure what it is. Also there is a new symbol on the left above the TAC that is a little circle that looks like a speedometer with four dots underneath it. I looked in the CX7 manual but I can't find the symbol. I've never seen it before until this CEL came on.

Dealer is 20 miles away so it's more difficult to get the car in. Might have to wait until next week.

Will inform.

What a coincidence. Ours came on for the first time yesterday (3900 miles). Don't have the little 4-dot circle though.

Pardon the delay while I eat my previous words on the subject.... There!

We finally & officially join the club.

Can you take a pic of the mystery symbol?

mystery symbol

dont worry about that symbol you just dont notice it til you move your head to the left of the center guage pod.
its just a tag to indicate what the left knob does which is illumination for the gauges on a GT model I assume its nothing. sorry to hear about the CEL though I bought my car a month ago and have to call them and see if I still need to go in for these recalls. only problem I had was my tire pressure light came on for about 2 min the other day.

Ah I thought that might be it, so I was pushing it and turning it to no effect. It is kinda to the left and up in the corner.

Well I was planning on taking in next week, but the CEL disappeared yesterday and hasn't come back since.

We have been dipping into the 30s now here in SLC. I did take the gas cap completely out and then back in tight, but it did not immediately fix it at that point.

But it is gone now so I'll see by next week.

My gas cap was on tight when I got a gas cap CEL. It needed to be replaced...seems it wasn't sealing correctly. Only had around 3500 miles on the car.

The light will go off occaisionally and then come back on. Just get it fixed... the other symbol is in regards to the lighting of the dash... one cool feature is that if you press the knob it correlates too, when in night mode on a Nav model, it changes the dash and Nav screen to day mode. That way when it's just dark enough to put your lights on, but not dark enough to have it be night mode on the dash and screen you can change it...

Check Engine light @ 2000 KM

we bought our CX7 brand new with 27 KM on it. We saw the famous check engine light at just after 2000 KM. I told the dealer about this and they knew about the problem and said it's nothing to worry about as it has to do with emission system. From this forum I can see a lot of folks have had the same problem. It is not a major issue, but a hassle to go back to dealer after buying a brand new car to fix a problem. It would have been better if it was communicated to me before I bought my CX7 that there might be a problem with the emission system and not to worry about the check engine light right away. It is well known that when the light comes on there is something major wrong with the car and to not the drive car.

My dealer actually told me...after I bought it...that the CEL will come on at some point and not to worry too much, just to bring it in and they take care of it. They told me why and such.

Get it read for free at any AutoZone to see what the code is. If it is in fact the gas cap it will be this:
P0457....Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (fuel cap loose/off)

Better to know for certain versus guessing or assuming.

We went through the gas cap issue with my dealer first time it came up, but the check engine light would appear and disappear in one day. My dealer fixed the issue though (good service).

I got the recall done last week. Then took a trip and the CEL came on. Then the low tire pressure light came on. But tire pressure was correct. After a while it went out and the TESS light came on. I couldn't and still can't switch the TESS on or off. The clock display disappeared, and the odometer A reset itself to zero. The TESS light went out, but CEL is still on and I still can't switch TESS on or off. Clock is still gone.
