Check Engine Light now flashing

My wife's 98 Proteges check engine light came on a while back. It was always on. We took it into the dealer and the guy told us that the O2 sensor was bad and there were some other electrical problems. He said as long as the car was driving ok that we could keep driving it.
Now the light is blinking. It was in the shop about two weeks ago to fix an oil leak. I immediately thought that the mechanics had forgot to tighten some bolts or something. I actually found some random bolts under the hood. I took it back to the dealer today and the guy looked at it and said that I should put in new spark plugs. (the bolts were extras that just didn't get picked up) He also said that the catalytic converter was shot. She said don't bother replacing it and just change the plugs. So I did that, but the light is still flashing. Any ideas?

If I understand my check engine lights, flashing is bad. I would get to the bottom of it before driving it to much. Have you tried to pull any codes to see what the thing is flashing about?

No, I figured taking it to the dealer would be the best thing to do. I don't know if he ran codes or not. In my jeep you can just turn the ignition on and off three times and they appear. Not possible with the mazda.
Would bad spark plugs cause the blinking? The car seems to run fine. Is there a way to reset the car's computer?
