WTF?

Probably the same damned problem. I'm starting to think I chose poorly here. My OLD car with 157,000 miles didn't give me this much trouble.

I should have gotten a Honda, I guess. Oh well, lesson learned. Now to pay this baby off early so I can get a car that doesn't give me two engine lights in just over a month's worth of ownership.

Is this thing really a Dodge in disguise or what?

Ok...I'm sorta kidding, but seriously, WTF is up with throwing two CELs in just over a months worth of total ownership?

mazda hasn't released a new gas cap yet and that is what is causing the CEL's. It is best to just reset the CEL yourself until Mazda puts out a TSB. Sorry to hear it though, I wouldn't worry about it, its not like your car is going to break down like a gti would. If you want to get an idea of what to do check out the cx-7 cel thread.

Mine's NOT the gas cap...it's an intake valve of some sort....cyclonic intake valve that creates turbulence in the intake for more torque at low RPMs.

If it's the gas cap again that sucks. I brought my car in for an oil change (switching engine/tranny to synth) and the tech told me another MS3 has been back 3 times for purge valve replacement. He said it's probably the computer and that such problems generally persist until Mazda comes up with a reflash. Which brings me to your CEL. Mattlegee on the other forum also has a recurring CEL and his dealer says he has a reflash for early production cars (low VINs) designed to deal with "drivability concerns" he has complained about. Maybe all of your problems are PCM related and will be addressed by a reflash. I say this b/c it's hard to believe that gas caps and purge valves used on all models would cause repeated problems in only certain cars. Presumably it is not the cap/valve but something about the particular cars, such as ... PCM programming. No freaking idea, of course, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

mazda replaced my purge valve, leak detection pump, maf and fuel pump and reflashed my 2004 mazda3 and my check engine light kept coming on until the stupid tech said have we tried to replace your gas cap yet. I said no and haven't had a problem since. My point is that the techs just try what they think will work until mazda comes out with updated parts to truly fix the problem. All the computer tells them is that there is something wrong with your emissions system, they guess what it is.

I'm having them look at it again on Thursday....

It's a one-hour trip each time I have to do this, dammit! :(

I've seen a CX-7 with a TSCV problem already, exactly like what you have.. mazda has known some isolated cases of these problems already, just like some of the cars have #3 injectors dying on them... what your dealer really needs to do is contact mazda if this is a recuring issue, just like some of the ms3s are having DSC issues

anyhow, it's not like your car got you stranded, the fact is, it's a first year car and there's going to be some problems... all cars are like that

Sorry to hear about the problems. My msp has had CEL pop up roughly 7 times since i've had it. Took the dealer many visits to finally fix the issue, however, mazdas I think just have very sensitive programing. My car always drove fine even when the CEL came on and I'm sure yours will as well. I had a similar valve issue with my car, but it was the clutch switch that was trippin' my CEL every time. I miss the good old days of cars without CEL...yellow dash lights suck. '89 bronco...miss her.

I just got my MS3 back from the dealer. I took it in Monday with the second CEL I've had since buying the car (about a month ago). The first one was the purge valve. This one was code 2006 which is the "VCS Valve". I asked what that valve was and my tech said it was "variable control speed valve" or something like that. My tech also said to not be surprised if the CEL comes back for either valve and I have to get them replaced again.

They didn't even replace my part because they said that Mazda hasn't yet released whatever part it is yet...but that they expect it in early Jan.

WTF?

I'll find out the code numbers when I bring the thing in on Thursday.

Yeah the light will do that. Mine has done that a bunch. It mostly seems when I first start it up and try and move it before the RPMs settle at around 800-900. Is that how yours is?

RPI- That was the code mine gave. I am awaiting for my dealership to get that part in since it was back ordered. They also had one on order for a CX-7 since it is the same part.

Yah, I think I got lucky that my dealer had the part in stock. I think they had 2-3 when I went. I know 2 other dealerships didn't have the part.

I'm hoping this isn't a situation where these valves fail due to climate. nondual and Funky - where are you guys located? Has it gotten cold lately where you are?

Yeah I live in PA so its been chilly and I did notice its when the light likes to come on. Like my light hasnt been on lately, but then again i didnt drive it for 4 days since I was in NYC. But then tonight I went out for a drive and as I was pulling out, sure enough the light came on. I let it warm up till it was reving at 800-900rpms. I dunno, I just hope my part comes in!! It would be nice cause I need to get an oil change in like 300miles.

I can't wait for my ******* dealer to get this part.

Very irritating with the light on all the time....

This is what happens when you buy a car in the first few years of production, it takes years to work out all the bugs, yeah its nice to have a new model car thats only been out for a little while, but we all know the manufacturers cant possibly know everything thats gonna go wrong with their cars. Just as long as its under warranty and you have patience to deal with the damn stealerships then its all gonna be ok man. good luck.

Mine just came on for the second time this morning. Both times it has come on the weather is raining and cold (cold for Texas anyway).
It may be a sensor which is climate sensitive. Im not a car nut but thats my guess.
My wife took her cx-7 back last week, hers was the gas cap.
like the rest of you, drivability is still good but i hate having to go to the dealer.
