2004 Sunlight Silver Mazda 3 HB
Well I just bought an 04 mazda 3 hb with 34000 miles on it.
I love the car and glad to be apart of the mazda crew.
I was idling in traffic and my check engine light came on. I talked to my friend and he said check your gas cap, so I filled up and made sure it was on tight and the light went off. The next day it went off again while idling. I went to autozone and it said "System too lean off idle Bank 1"
Failure of MAS
Possible problems-
Vacuum leak
Low fuel pressure
Failed o2 sensor
I replaced the air filter thinking that would fix it because the old one was pretty dirty. The guy reset my computer for the new filter and it went off. A day and a half later it came on again while I was idling, and when I put gas in it, it had trouble starting until i gave it some gas. If anyone could help me that would be great. before I take it too the dealer

The symptoms you are describing sound like an O2 sensor gone bad on you. I am not sure on these cars yet cause mine is only 2 years old, but the reading you got about the bank 1 is referring to, I believe, the front O2 sensor. When these babies go out, your gas mileage will start to suffer. You already have the diagnosis of bank 1 being lean. Go to the parts store, tell them which O2 sensor you need. Get some PB Blaster and an O2 sensor socket and replace that thing yourself unless the warranty will cover it which I doubt being a used vehicle.

correct it's the o2 sensor....it's gonna be about a 100 bucks....check where you bought and see if they will take care of it or maybe spliit if you just bought it

You might want to check your fuel filter as well. One of the syptoms is low fuel pressure. Certainly couldn't hurt to change it. If the prev owner ran it low a lot your filter will have a lot of junk in it.

Thanks alot. yeah I will go get a front o2 sensor thanks guys.
I just didnt think it was because of the low miles, I had no idea they go out that fast.
Ill keep you posted

My '07 has 35k miles on it... I think it's more of the age of the car not the miles.

my 02 p5 has 100k and no prob with o2 sensor...and unless they put a fuel filter in all it is, is a 'sac' in the gas tank

I've bought a brand new starter for my Pathfinder years ago and it was faulty out of the box. It's just one of those things. Please do some research and confirm that it is the front O2 sensor and not the back O2 sensor as far as bank 1 is concerned.

So my check engine light went off while driving, now I still notice that it kinda hesitates in first while im accelerating. The bad gas mileage im not sure yet, but it seems to drive the same. Its not maintaining speed smoothly when im driving around a parking lot.

Yeah i got the code read. I cant remember the exact number except that its an obd2 code That read "System to lean off idle bank 1"
But on friday im replacing the fuel filter for good measure anyway, Im just deciding on getting oem o2 sensor or a universal one I can just solder on myself.
Ill let you know what happens, thanks for helping everyone

Sorry your 3 is on the fritz once everything is working normal again hpefully it will be awhile till you have to fix something else.
