cheap, easy power?

ok, so I'm still debating buying this car, and I have yet another question.

I have never done any sort of modding to a car, I've never owned a car worth it. So I have absolutely no experience with that sort of thing

That said, what is the easiest/cheapest way to get more power out of this car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

This has come up a few times.. I think that loosing weight will "add power" i used " " because it does not actually add power it just makes your car lighter, which in a sense will bring u up to speed faster and slow down faster.. grounding Kit makes the car feel nice.. Do a search for "grounding kit" and read up about it..good luck

Turbo cars are the easiest to get power out of. On my 240sx with an SR20DET I raised the boost from 7psi (stock) to 14psi along with:

3in exhaust
CAI
FMIC

and I went from my 1st dyno at 185hp --> 230hp and 205lb/ft --> 252lb/ft

It's all about boost and making your car handle it. Three words to always remember "Fueling, cooling, and breathing"

Well, this car is already pretty light. I just assumed that there wasn't any room to make it lighter. But then, you know what they say about when you assume../

Theres alot of ways to lighten the car, Taking seats out, roof rack off(p5), spare tire, jack, ummm A/C, All your carpet, floor mats, Check out some pictures of rally cars, they strip there whole car down, but they also put a rollcage in.. I want a roll cage!

I'm not about to take this thing rallying... well, not yet. ;) I would like to keep my seats, AC, etc. I do plan on driving it around, and would like some comfort as I do so. :D

Get lighter wheels, the less rotational mass will help the car accelerate faster, stop faster, and help with handling also. :D

well you could either get a mbc or ebc, joe makes the best mbc(joeppmbc.com) he also has some other goodies for the msp...as for boost gauge you could try jegs.com, summitracing.com,ebay....

cheesewood, may I suggest you stay clear of trying to tune the MSP until you learn what all is involved with a forced induction car. Visit your local tuner shop, and ask questions to the installers, and techs there. They should be more then happy to answer all your questions.

I say this because an ill informed person will easily damage, if not destroy a boosted car, without the proper tuning, and guidance.

you can learn alot here about the MSP in general, but you should possess some knowledge on what you are doing before attempting to "get more power" from any boosted car.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm follow this link to learn more about turbochargers, and the effects on motors.

I mean no offence, but if your asking where to get a boost controller, and gauge, you REALLY need to educate yourself. :D

haha, none taken. I'm well aware of the fact that I don't know what I'm doing, which is I wouldn't be the one doing the work, I'd just buy the parts. I have a friend who knows all about this stuff (he's at work now though, so I can't bug him about this) who said he'd be willing to help me install everything and show me how to do it. And yes, I really trust this guy.

This is just me checking out prices to see how cost effective it would be to make the car more powerful. I don't even own one, at least not yet.

cheesewood, find me on AIM tonight, and you can aske me all the questions you want. MY AIM name is in my sig. Im at work right now, but will be on after about 6 pm EST. :D

I would love to help you, and guide you to building your MSP to become a better performer, if you purchase one. :D

cool, I'll definitely drop you an IM. Chances are it'll be right after I get back from test driving the MSP too. Lookin forward to it. :D

AWESOME! I'll get right on it ;)

Definately educate yourself and be cautious when you do mods. I started having a detonation at 8-9psi even though the majority of people here have stated that you can run 10 safely on pump gas. Some might be able to go safely at 10 w/ no other mods, but w/ 91 and no other mods that was not my case...I have colder plugs now as an added precaution and hope to get my mbc back in soon, after my dealer figures out why my car was throwing a cel. I wish I had the time and resources to mod my car however I wished, but for someone like myself who just wants to do small mods and still keep my warranty in tact, you need to be careful.

I agree with UnwritenLaw on this one! You need to be careful with what you do to your car. I would take it easy at first and do some of the safer things. I dont see taking out your seats, A/C, and/or mulfer and ect being a good option. the reason you are buying a $20K car is becasue you like the looks and the reliability of it. Once you take out all of these options, you dont have a daily driver anymore you have one hella hot race car!

i would start by getting a CAI so you have suffecent air flow. Then I would buy a boost controler and a bost gauge. Then after that you will do exhaust. It depends how much money you want to spend. The more you spend, the more you will get out of it.
