Attn: Tar Heels. Also Blue Devils, Demon Deacons, etc.:
My kid's starting grad school at Chapel Hill this month, with a 2020 CX-5 in tow owned since new. I need to get that car's oil changed during move in week following a series of road trips. thus leaving it good to go for a long while given its limited use. Plus, we need a place for future light preventative maintenance work.
At home, my car engineer buddy's better equipped home garage allowed me to show up with a Mazda (non-value line) filter, crush washer, and usually Castrol 0W-20, and we'd knock it out then I'd buy his next meal, etc. In Chapel Hill, I want to bring my own Mazda filter, crush, and oil, either to a fully licensed shop--or even to a moonlighter/curb sider--and follow the same approach, basically paying for labor only.
I can't let my kid pay $150 at the local Mazda dealerships only to get the value line cheapo filter and bulk oil, while the trainee/jockey of the moment leaves out all the belly pan access panel fasteners and takes who knows what other shortcuts.
So, seeking an "oil change done with respect, on a BYO parts basis" suggestions. To clarify, I'm not seeking to cheap out or save money, rather to get a mundane task performed attentively, to gladly pay for it, and to use my own parts. Hard to find that combination blind in a new town.
Thanks in advance.
