Yeah, I was thinking how rude this was when I saw the title -- figured he was refererring to Hispanics in some way. That would've been awful, considering it came on the same day Bill Parcells was reamed for his "Japanese plays" comments!
As for davo's question -- I could explain both, but looking at the shop manual would probably be much better. You can find it at http://protege5.ugly.net. Section 09-22 covers the instrument cluster light (page 3), and the one for the shifter can be found in another section, I'm sure.
