Yeah, I already did dyno it! Lot's more torque. I'd love to see what one would do on an MP3. I went for a long drive today with the ceramic coated one on the car. I really like only having to shift down to 4th to pass. When we first got the car if you didn't go down to 3rd at 55mph, you didn't get up enough steam to pass. Now I shift down to 4th and I'm usually up to 75 before I get even with their doors! My wife says she definately feels a difference since I started working on the car. Even did well going up and over a 5700 ft mountain pass today. Next up, engine management.
Anyone want/need some Porsche 914 parts? I've got some awesome wheels, a complete motor, aftermarket A/C unit, and the complete GT body kit. I'll sell it all for $800 plus shipping although shipping will be a bit since it weighs a bit. That's about $2000 worth of stuff at least.

Changes in gas milage?
Traveler, I'm curious how all the mods you've done has changed your gas milage. I have a very long commute, and am very interested in increasing my MPG as well as power. Even a few MPG more can really make a difference in $ saved each month (and can justify buying new parts!

I used to drive an s10 blazer, and was able to increase MPG by nearly a third while making a lot more power from my 4.3 with just some simple bolt on mods (header, exh, K&N, underdrive pulley...)
I'm curious to see how well the 2.0L responds. (although I don't expect to see quite as dramatic increase given I am starting with a much more effecient engine)

Hi Traveler, I've looked at your header several times before and just have to say that it looks fantastic. That is definitely on my list of things to buy when I actually have some money.
Let me know if you ever re-dyno the chrome one to see if it makes a diff.

i don't want to sound like an ass, but the welds don't look all that great; kind of sloppy looking. i appreciate your work in getting them made, but i don't think i could handle having to look at those welds every time i popped the hood. any plans on getting them a little cleaner?

Hey would those headers f*** up my paint on my hood do to the increase in temprature? Because that doesnt have that heat sheild like the regular exhaust manifold. And it looks a lot closer to the hood? Also, would those be considered "Illegal" Even though it doesnt change any cats or stuff? Thanks

No worries about the underhood temps. The ceramic really keeps the heat down. The only place that might question it really is California and then only if you get a butthead inspector. The rules read "all emissions equipment must remain in the factory locations" and the law also states that you may not disable (by removing the catalyst) any emissions equipment. Edelbrock makes a shorty header for the Focus that looks similar and they aren't having a problem with CARB.

The reason I asked is becasue the guy that put my exhaust on said that the cats on the 02 pro5 had an 02 sensor on it and if you took it off the check engine light would stay on???????????? Just wondering....

He's incorrect. The first o2 sensor is in the manifold just above where it attaches to the primary cat. The second o2 sensor is in the down pipe that comes off the bottom of the primary cat and connects to the rest of the exhaust system. The sensor is right at the bend where it turns to go under the car. If you look at the pics of my header, you can see where I put the o2 sensor. No CEL's and I've had either the prototype or the ceramic header on my car since the end of May.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. I just saw this. Yes, the welds should be cleaner on the next one. The only way to weld these up unfortunately is to butt weld the pipes together. I've been working on a better technique for doing it, and I can always grind them down before coating them but that will definately make them a little weaker. I've got a good welder now and I'm getting better at using it everytime I weld more. Butt welding is a very hard technique to master without burning through. You basically weld a spot, move, weld a spot, move, and so on.
Unfortunately there is no way to get the pipes mandrel bent to the shape I need. Mandrel bends can only be bent in different directions if there is 6-7 inches of straight between bends. If our cats were a few inches lower I'd have taken a different approach.

The coating ran $145 plus shipping it back and forth. I'm into it for about $173 just for the coating. But it's really good stuff. They coat inside and out, they use 3 different kinds of media blasting to clean the metal really well and to help the ceramic adhere better, and they polish it when it's done.
The stuff is holding up great. Actually looks better now since I discovered that I can polish it without it getting cloudy like some ceramic coating will do. I only use Flitz metal polish on any of the metal I polish. It's absolutely the best stuff I've ever used. It's made in Germany and is distributed by a place over in either Minnesota or Wisconsin I can't remember which. I pick up a couple tubes every other year at the big county fair near us.
