I've been searching through the forums for a good answer on jacking a 2002 protege up but haven't quite found what im looking for. What i want to do is jack both of the front tires up and then both of the back tires up to put it in jack stands. Most of the pictures ive been able to find show putting the jack and stands at the "pinch weld" ive been reading its called. This is the factory location. But that doesnt seem like a very robust spot to support the whole car with a jack stand. Whats the story with that beam just inside the pinch weld that only runs from the front wheel to the back one?
For the center lifting points ive read people have used a round protrusion just off center in the front of the car. That looks like a fairly strong spot. Is there anything a little further back to help list the car higher. On the back i see a plate in the center of where the back wheels are. Is this a good location for the floor jack? My jack stands are a set of 6 tons for my 4runner and my jack is a 3 ton so i need all the height i can get for the stands. I made a set of ramps from 2x12's for the 4runner and made the ramp at an angle that should work for the protege but im wondering if it will just get in the way for an oil change since its so big.
