CEL light problem

Hey guys. I'm actually posting this for my brother who has a 2006 MazdaSpeed 6...

His mods:

Intake
Full-exhaust
Downpipe (no cats)

Today his CEL light just came on and he isn't sure why. He did install his downpipe with no cats a couple weeks ago, but the light never came on until now. And he has probably put about 200-300 miles on the car since installing the downpipe. Anyways...I'm pretty sure the CEL is on because the ecu senses there is no more cat. Is that the issue or is there some underlying problem? And how do you guys go about getting the CEL to turn off?

Disconnect the battery to reset the CEL, unless you can go to Autozone, and get it cleared.

There is a thread on how to stop the CEL from returning.

There is the diode method, and the non-fouler method.

If he disconnects the battery for lets say, 15 minutes. Then connects it again. Will the CEL code stay off or just temporarily stay off but come back again later on? Where is the thread you are talking about to get the CEL to stay off permanently. (Not permanently, because you want it to come on again down the road if there are some other problems with the car, but I meant permanently in regards to not sensing the cat)

Just disconnect for a few seconds. If you really want to be sure all the juice is gone, leave the headlights on.

The CEL will come back.
