kinda.

anywho. was driving home from school and my cel came on. :( i took it to the dealer the next morning. it took them 2 hours to tell me that my car was idling too rich and this was because of my aem cai. i've had the intake on for 7500 miles and never had a problem til now... they said i could leave the car with them for the weekend and the mechanic *might* be able to get the cel to stay off but it wouldnt be covered under warranty and i would have to pay. anybody else here had this problem? i hate driving around with the cel on.

Put your stock intake on and go to a different dealer. Just don't disconnect your battery or you will clear the code.

Chances are the idle problem is your idle air control valve, pretty common problems on other proteges, MSPs and P5. Wouldn't be surprised if the 3 started having these issues too.

when i put my CAI in my CEL came on I brought it in for an oil change they turned it off and it never came back on again. Maybe if you pull your Neg terminal and let it reset it will turn itself off.

i asked them if it could just be the maf sensor messing up and the immediately dismissed that as if they didnt want to hear anythign i had to suggest. i've heard that the maf sensor wires get messed up since they are stretched to connect to the cai unless you loosen the tape... which i didnt do until now.

EDIT: they said there were no negative effects of driving the car like this except taht it would use more gas. is this true?

does anyone know what error code would come up if it was in fact the wires that were causing the problem?

foolish people...modding your cars and expecting a warranty...how naive.

I don't even count on a warranty on cars I DONT mod. Dealerships only make money when they screw you out of warranty work. Just deal with it.

The trouble codes were posted before, I'll see if I can find them for you. It does sound like the MAF wires have been pulled.

Here are the codes that the others have had with the MAF wires being bad.
P0101 = MAF sensor circuit range/performance problem
P0102 = Maf sensor circuit low input
P0103 = Maf sensor circuit high input

i haven't looked to hard at the MAF sensor yet, but if there are so many problems with pulling the wires with a CAI install why don't "we" just solder in an extension wire, a lil wire, some shrink tubing can go a long way. won't that take care of all these CEL's that are being thrown do to to much stress on the MAF???

That is way to excessive. All you need to do is remove the electrical tape and you can easily pull acouple of inches of slack for the MAF wires. Just tape it back up and that is it.

you dont have any idea what you are talking about....

Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. If the dealer cannot prove such a claim or it proffers a questionable explanation it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission administers the Magnuson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law

^^..HAHAHAH, yeah I don't know what I'm talking about...ahahaa.. When you mod your car and go in for warranty work and they tell you "no" make sure you throw that in their face and see how far it gets you. It's not a law, it's an act.

p.s. with only 34 posts you couldn't possibly know anything about me but I'm a former ase mechanic for 2 seperate dealerships and I've also sued Mazda northa american over warranty work denial. I would tend to think I know a little more about the subject than you.
