That question is easily answered with two questions for you.

1. Do you want to waste your money and look like every other ricer civic driver that just puts on a short ram intake, and a loud annoying fart can muffler and cuts his springs to make it look like he has performance springs?

2. Or do you want to put quality products on your car that will actually give you a performance boost.

I think that is an easy choice.

OR??...the other question... money for value of that product...meaning,....will the cat back yield the bang for your buck...hmmmmm, probably not...but again it is your dollar to spend!! The OEM path and diameter isn't all that bad....anyway, I will proabably bite the bullet as well and get a catback...unless the axle back convences me otherwise..Peace!

Im gonna tell you guys this from experience. My friend has a 2002 protege ex with the full catback racing beat exhaust and i have the PR5 with the Mazdaspeed axel back exhaust. I beat him when we race. The racing beat my have better lowend at 1st gear but from 2nd on i take him.

Anyone have price quotes for comparison?

I was under the impression that the RB and MS were the same?

Although "LZRBLUE954", your opinion is appreciated...there are just too many variables for "street racing" comparisons to prove that the axle back is the product of choice....we all know what we need done(dyno, same car different products)...no one just hasn't given us the info yet...Peace!

Well I am going to jump on this one. I am comtemplating the same thing. Wether to build my own system as in buying a seperate muffler and having a shop do mandrel bent piping or buying a premade cat back. Either way I want to keep my stock exhaust in one peice so that I can tuck it away for when I sell the car. I am thinking of going with a Vibrant muffler because they are good quality and not very expensive and sound great. Other thoughts on just the muffler were and apex n-1 (heard they were really loud though, not what I am going for) or the JIC Ti fire burnt muffler(haven't heard it but it looks awesome and I know the quality is awesome) Done the math and just having a hard time swallowing the fact that for about 2x as much as a pieced together system I could get a premade cat back. the greddy is like $600 and the JIC is a little more than that. Rishie says his JIC is absolutely the best exhaust he has had on the P5 and from the pics I like the looks but like I said having a hard time shelling out the cash for negliable performance gains. I mean I may only get 2-3 hp for my pieced together exhaust for $300 and maybe 4-5 for the cat back. but hey I may even equal or make more. Main thing that a pieced together system would do for me is that I could choose the way my exhaust would look. Meaning dual tip, slash cut, offset, etc... Wanna be different so like I said before that is probably the way I will go. BTW has anyone every seen a dual tip muffler on a P5???? NOT dual exhaust but something like twin 90mm round tips.

Have any of you considered the JIC SUS505. It's less than the GReddy and doesn't sound ricey at all. The Mazdaspeed and Racing Beat mufflers just don't do it when it comes to looks. If, I'm spending extra money on a car part, I want something that doesn't look like a part that is OE or a part that you can buy at Pep Boys. In this case, both the Mazdaspeed and Racing Beat look like s*** compared to the JIC. Unfortunately, you would have had to have seen all the exhaust next to each other or at the sametime likke I have, and the JIC looks a hell of a lot better and you won't get cited by any Rice Cops.

I am lost.

I'm new to the aftermarket car parts, but do want to upgrade the stock exhaust myself.

APEXistud, you say, aesthetically, the JIC is much better. Do you prefer the look of the exhaust, say on the supra in your avatar?
What do you mean by looks better?

And for the sound...Is the goal to have it sound like a civic, or like an 8 cyl mustang? Somewhere inbetween?

The JIC with the cat still in the car, sounds quite a nice coming off of a rev. Nothing CIVICish at all. If I had to compare it to and honda exhuast, I'd say it's kinda like the the APEXi WS exhuast but with more nuts. It doesn't look like the Supra exhuast in my sig Rishie of AutoR&D has pics of it on his p5, you'd have to find the post though.

Finally found his thread, page is out of date, and pics won't load :(

It's an interesting concept, I'll definetly keep that on the top of my list.

Obviously, I am not turned on by the look of the cofee can hanging out the back, as I see on 90% of the imports around here. I like the approach of a hidden canister with the pipe(s) exposed.

Let me know if you run into any pics

I agree with milmoejoe about the coffee can look. I'm looking for an exhaulst that sounds throaty without sounding like a wet fart and fits under my car.
How does the MAZDASPEED exhaust sound?
What other pipes are available with out the fart sound?

Later,

Bill

PS: I have one of those APC LED tailpipe tips on the stock mufler that I want to use on the next pipe.
